Valve Guy Makes His Half-Life 3 T-Shirt Talk

image

Some random Valve guy has been spotted wearing a Half-Life 3 t-shirt!

This is big news, kids. Last night, a Valve employee who is not Gabe Newell, Doug Lombardi or the OMM guys was spotted gallivanting around town in a Half-Life 3 t-shirt. That's right - Half-Life 3!

"All I'm saying is I saw this at a local game developer event worn by a Valve employee," Chandana Ekanayake, art director and executive producer at Monday Night Combat developer Uber Entertainment, tweeted last night. The tweet also included a photograph of said t-shirt and the hashtags #Halflife3 and #ValveTrolling.

What could it mean? Possibly that work on Half-Life 3 is actually underway in a locked room in the deepest, darkest bowels of Valve headquarters, or possibly that Valve ordered a bunch of these things back in 2007, this guy found a box of them in a closet somewhere and decided to wear one out in public to mess with the internet. I would say it's pretty much a 50/50 situation.

Whatever the case, Anonymous Valve Man clearly didn't have a problem with the world finding out about his duds. "I asked him if it was OK to take the photo and he was cool with it. You never know with Valve," Ekanayake tweeted later. "I did try to smother my face in his chest on the HL3 logo. He didn't even spoon me back. Jerk."

I would've been a whole lot happier to see someone sporting an Episode 3 shirt instead of Half-Life 3, but after four years of waiting I suppose I should just take what I can get.

that guy must be the biggest troll ever

God DAMMIT this game better not be coming out in the next 6 months. I've got too much shit to play already.

What I think? The trolling is strong in this one.

This reeks of rumor, but Valve just might be crazy enough to do something like this. Holy crap.

I'm willing to let it put my hopes up, but my heart is not set on the idea.

I'll agree with you Andy, cautiously optimistic.

Must make a BF3 dino shirt

Trolling at it's finest....

But even i have to admit... i'm having some hopes deep down on my heart. It's like i know i'm being trolled, and yet i want to be fooled in the hopes of this being true :S

Yeah I'm not falling for this, the warping on the logo reeks of home-made.
Plus Valve isn't this stupid.

Of course I could always be wrong....

HOLD ON. THE LOGO IS REVERSED!
It's supposed to be lambda in the middle with the 3 in the upper right corner.

edit: yes this revelation deserves its own post

God damn you Valve! Why must thou torture me like this!? WHY!?

OT: Argh, Valve if you be trolling I am not going to buy any more games from steam...Atleast to the next sale...

Well it still bodes better than say, flying pigs.

Wait, why would Episode 3 be better then a full sequel? The only difference between the two is that a full sequel would be a longer game.

I think that since Episode 3 was supposed to be released in 2009 at the latest, that is before Valve Time struck, that Half Life fans are entitled to a full sequel by now. That and Episode 1 and 2 were supposed to be titled Half Life 3, but that never made it to the end for whatever reason.

Still until Valve actually says something im putting this down to pure, hard trolling.

My Spidey senses are tingling with Valve trolling. Google image search shows you are correct.

You've heard it's going to be re-made as a Turn Based Strategy? ;)

Yeah as long as the story picks up directly after the events of ep2 i'll be fine with it. (Gotta get my revenge on, damn those advisers!!!!)

I'm guessing the latter. then again, it is just a T-shirt, and literally anybody can cook up a T-shirt, so this might not have anything to do with anything at all.

Half Life 3 is the name of the new big update for TF2, silly people that don't know that.

Considering the fact that there is no publicly available HL3 logo, I don't really see your point. Just because the last two games had the lambda in the middle doesn't mean they would stick with that formula for the third one.

That said, I too, am leaning toward hoaxery.

This is either the work of a genius (free advertising anyone?), or the the biggest trolls ever. I think both apply.

Remember, every single time someone makes a "Gabe is Fat" joke, the next Half Life game gets delayed another week. But this does prove at least one person in valve knows how to count to 3.

1) Fake - remember when someone made some fake artwork for the logo not too long ago?
2) "I would've been a whole lot happier to see someone sporting an Episode 3 shirt instead of Half-Life 3"

Why? Episode 2 set the next installment up for being quite drastically different (City 17 is officially done with), and HL3 should mean a longer game.

His Trollichlorian count is off the scale.

Even if it's not trolling, I'm really past the point of caring about the Half-Life series by this point.

You kept us waiting for too long, Gaben. Mr. Freeman means nothing to me now.

I thought this was reasonably old news? Saw this linked on facebook, didn't see it on here, and assumed it was fake.

OT: Good? I don't really care about HL3. I won't be buying it, but it will be interesting to see if the success of the game, which I'd presume won't change gameplay-wise, might alter the course of the industry?

I'll just have to sit through months of Valve fanboyism/hype until then... :P

Please gaming gods don't make this a troll on Valve's part. The logo is backward as i just looked at the desktop icon for hl2

After only four years, really? Guys like you are why we get yearly installments.

Half-Life 2 took 6 years and it turned out fine.

Guys seriously, there is no way they're not developing HL3. And not episode 3, that's been replaced with a full sequel. This could very well be real, Valve being who they are. Still, that doesn't give it any merit, and I wouldn't read anything into it.

Valve is a good example why games should take forever to make. 5 years or a year *cough*cod*cough* is not enough.

Fuck it all... the HL3 angst was finally starting to die down again! Damnit, cue up the new round of threads.

OT: It's either a marketing stunt or fake. That is all.

If this is supposed to be a joke Valve, then I can't laugh at all about this.
I don't know whether I trust that guy, whose name I can't spell, let alone pronounce correctly. We don't have prove whether it's actually a Valve employee, we don't even know what "local game developer event" that was.
The only reasons why I don't dismiss this as a trolling attempt, is because he wouldn't gain anything from this except our hate and bad reputation. He isn't exactly anonymous, unlike most trolls.
Also, his game is on Steam, so there is a possibility that he may know this " unnamed Valve guy".
Still, it's probably nothing.

From what I've heard, wearing a shirt for a game that hasn't been announced is typically frowned upon by the developer. I remember a story from the E3 Halo 3 was announced, some dude from Bungie was wearing a Halo 3 shirt and his fellow employees flocked to him saying "What are you doing? Zip up your hoodie until after the announcement!"

So, I wouldn't be too surprised if it was fake. It could be real, though, which I suppose would be cool to see. I was never into Half-Life myself, but it would be cool to see it finally announced.

"Guys like me" includes most of the gaming community. I'm not being unreasonable. Generally it takes a AAA developer (and YES, Valve is one) circa two years to make a great sequel, especially in a genre as straightforward as an FPS. Hell, even smaller dev teams sometimes need less time than that. Take Uncharted, for example.

It's been four years since the bite-sized add-on that was Episode 2. I may not be as big a Valve fan as you, but it will take more than that to revive the series for me that's been buried under the dust of waiting so long. It's already been seven years since Half-Life 2. And this is just at time of writing! Valve are infamous for their development time, but that shouldn't give them an unlimited development time allotment in my eyes. They can only put it off for so long before it enters the realm of absurdity. Really, besides Duke Nukem Forever, what's the most infamously delayed game in history that's already spawned internet memes?

Forgive me for being skeptical, but I'm not sure how much Valve can improve the FPS formula that they've got for Dr. Freeman. Valve may have opened the door for FPS experimentation, but with the glut of shooters on the market that have experimented with different engine and design concepts since Half-Life 2, I can see very little that Valve can innovate that hasn't already been done by someone else.

So, kind of off-topic, but who do you think the bigger trolls are?

Valve, or Gainax?
