Trololo Guy Dies Pages 1 2 NEXT
Eduard Khil, better known to the world as the Trololo Guy, has trolled his last lolo. Eduard Khil would almost certainly have remained unknown to the world outside his native Russia, but for the emergence of his 1976 rendition of "I Am Glad, 'Cause I'm Finally Returning Back Home," a song written by Arkady Ostrovsky in 1966, on YouTube. Because the original lyrics of that song, about an American cowboy riding the plains, didn't sit well with the authorities - this was the Soviet Union, remember, the motherland of totalitarianism - Khil simply sang "trololo" and other nonsense lyrics instead. 35 years later, a meme sensation was born. Despite his pre-trololo anonymity in the rest of the world, Khil was quite the celebrity behind the iron curtain (at least according to his Wikipedia entry), earning commendations including the Meritorious Artist of the RSFSR in 1968, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1971 and the People's Artist of Russia, the country's most prestigious artist award, in 1971. His career had pretty much wound down by the 1990s, but in 2009 he was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland for his 75th birthday, and in 2010 he performed in the Victory Day Parade in St. Petersburg. "The death of the exceptional singer, Eduard Khil, is an irretrievable loss to Russian culture. He was truly a people's artist. Several generations of people loved his songs not only in this country but also abroad," Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said in a statement. "Eduard Khil is no more, but we still have the cultural heritage and fond memories of this outstanding, talented man." Khil died of complications arising from a stroke he suffered in April. He will be remembered until the internet shuts down.
He sure had one big last trick up his sleeve with this years E3 though...
Spokojnoj nochi, comrade Khil. The internet already seems less bright....
maybe he can TRLOLOLOL in Heaven
Russia is just a little bit gloomier today... Oh well, there's always President Putin's abs to entertain us...
We have lost a man that has helped make the internet what it is today. May he be remembered for his talent, his voice, and for his contribution to pop culture. Thank you, Eduard.
Whitney Huston Truly this is the year that has no voice.
I think we all should remember him by this metal remix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0
I saw this in the papers yesterday. He shall now trolol as a ghost.....MAYBE IT WILL BE YOU?
Покойся с миром, мой друг. May the skies echo to the sound of trololo forevermore.
Rest in peace Mr Khil. You surely have earned for making the internet a little bit brighter with your song.
Thus go my dreams for a duet between Mr. Khil and Mr. Bean. :(
I am going to hell for lol-ing...
For the gift of pure, unselfconscious laughter Eduard Khil you have my sincere thanks. Simple joy is something the internet doesn't produce enough of. RIP Tololo Guy
Idi s bogom, tovarish. We will always remember how you made us laugh.
Probably could have put "Eduard Khil dies (Trololo singer)" to make it extra classy, but nonetheless- a great singer. Rest in peace.
I feel bad that it took the man dying for me to finally watch the Trololo video. Mostly because everyone at work when it went viral wouldn't shut up about it. It was fun, but I am now sad.
Good night, Sweet Prince.
Ahh this is truly what the music industry is missing...
Tell you what God: | |
Rest in Peace Eduard Khil
Wait, what does that mean?
Not so subtle "I don't like E3" dig? Which is weird, because E3 this year has been less ridiculous than usual. But seriously, OP, like it matters?
With that backstory, he's even more awesome than I thought... This is sad.
Wow, I had no idea the trololo phenomenon had deeper roots. May he rest in peace.
I hope he Trolls In Peace.
And to think, if Russia wasn't a complete fuckhead when it came to his lyrics of that particular song, we might never have had the trollolol that we have now. Thank you, Russia, for being complete fuckheads... And may Eduard trollolol in peace.
Seeing as how we're talking music here, how about for those given we get back Scatman John, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley and Eduard Khil? Seems roughly a fair trade to me.
Great voice to be sure, but the song sounds more like a training excercise for singers than, well, an actual song. I get that they didn't want the original lyrics, but couldn't they've come up with an equivalent in Russian, both in content and language?
Why on earth would anyone want Steve Jobs back? As for the other guy I have no clue who he is. I'd settle for Janis Joplin, really.
If there's anyone I wanted to come back from the grave, it'd be this guy. *sigh* But that'll never happen.
Rest In Peace :( | |
Something the article doesn't mention, apparently he discovered he was an internet meme when he found his grandchildren watching the video, and he was beside himself with excitement. There are interviews of him expressing his thanks to the internet on youtube. And they are adorable. Anyways, so passes a great guy who brought a lot of happiness to people everywhere. May you trolololo in the afterlife, friend.
Steve Jobs is a piece of shit. I bet Satan threw him out of hell and he's now floating in limbo, plotting how to get back to earth and sell even more overpriced hardware.
huh, i didn't know he was even still alive before now. Trolololo in peace. oddly since he was alive for that video/song becoming wildly internet sensation big, does anyone know what he thought about it?
