Rumor: This Is the New PS3

image

If pictures unearthed by Brazlian tech site are to be believed, the new PS3 model looks a lot like the PS2 slim.

The picture to the right was harvested from the website of Anatel, Brazil's Agency of Telecommunications. The document that came with the image makes reference to models CECH-4011A, CECH-4011B and CECH-4011C. For those of you who don't speak long-unwieldy-model-code-ese, the latest line of slim PS3s is the CECH-30XX series.

Assuming the images are legit, the new PS3 sports matte ribbing, and the panel on the left of the symbol looks very similar to the cheaper, top-loading CD drive used by the PS2 slim.

Earlier this month, NeoGaf users discovered an FCC database filing for an unannounced PS3 model. Most of the information in the filing is confidential by Sony's request, but the few diagrams the press managed to get hold of indicate a smaller, squatter version of the console that's closer to the original PS3 in shape. The image from Anatel does seem to match that description.

Of course, it could also be a hoax made up of pipe cleaners and corrugated plastic.

So this ISN'T the PS4.

A slimmer PS3 model? Eh, I don't really see the point aside from it looking nice. IF this is true, of course.

The big question is... what features are they removing this time? :P

But, didn't they release a slim model less than 3 years ago?

That looks kinda ugly lying on it's side.

Silly Jedi you know they won't remove features until they've already advertised them.

DVS BSTrD:

Knowing Sony, it still could be.

Slap a $99 price tag on that sucker like they did the slim PS2 and the slim PS1 before it, and I'm sold. I always wanted a PS3, but the consoles were so expensive this gen (/especially/ the PS3) that I wound up going with a PC for my primary gaming machine. Not that I don't love PC gaming anyway, but there's something to be said for the kind of games that don't often get PC releases.

It´s a cost reduced revision of the other cost reduced revision.

A Cost reduction WITHIN a Cost Reduction?
COST-CEPTION!
BWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

You wish, it´s more like how your girlfriend and or wife starts looking like her mum as years go by. :D

Considering that every piece of hardware these days has to look "sleeker and sexier" and this looks like the complete opposite of that, I'm gonna say that this rumour is bullshit.

True or not my response is a resounding "meh." A new slim model is fine and all that buy frankly its about time that we started seeing a slowdown of PS3 stuff and got some more info regarding the next generation!

Now it'll heat up twice as fast! Be sure to buy two! :D

Who is this for?
Unless it can play ps2 games, who cares?

Seems like a really weird shape for a toploader IMO. Should either be like the other PS3's or be more squared

I'd say it's a hoax, Sony already released a slim, so unless this is the super slim™, I reckon it's fake.

It says Playstation 3 on label, next to the big SONY, FYI.

Anyone who has just recently had a PS3 break on them, and has yet to get a replacement?

Heck yeah! The PS3 has some cool exclusives but I can't justify the cost of the console what with all the others I own and my small paychecks. If there was a small PS3 at that cost I'd definitely be onboard to catch up with the games I missed, much like I do with the PS2 slim right now.

A cost-effective PS3 that doesn't take up a lot of space is a brilliant thing to release at the end of the current console generation. With the lack of backwards-compatibility becoming widespread, it's a good way of making sure past games aren't forgotten.

I think the slim PS2 was $149 for awhile.

3 models:

16GB (flash memory), probably $149. 250 GB, probably $199 and 500 GB, probably $249.

Except PS3 is getting skinnier instead of letting itself go with cakes and bonbons

Unless its restoring Linux capacity, and backwards compatibility, which they wont, then... Nope!

Edit: Also... not fond of how Asymmetrical all incarnations of the PS3 look when rested horizontally.

Which could reduce the sales price sooner than later, heck if they announce a price cut in October before the Wii U launch...

Shit... if they do that, Ill be set...

If it had PS2 playback with better filtering I would get one, sadly this is not better than the 60GB launch console....

Yes let's trust Brazil's agency of telecommunications. That seems like a good idea! Seriously, this sounds like I'm getting an e-mail from a Nigerian prince. I'll believe it when I have more then one source.

CardinalPiggles:

Oh yeah, because you know Sony would never release multiple revisions of a product.

It says Playstation 3 on label, next to the big SONY, FYI.

Nothing they won't fix with a sharpie.

the only reason I would give a fuck is if it was backwards compatible, and then it would only earn my ire.

I'm confused. Is it that this news comes in part from one of the fastest developing nations of the past few years that's throwing you off, or that there's only two rumors from different places that seem to be concurring in a nod that this might be legitimate that has you skeptical? Because if it's the former, I hate to tell you friend, but Brazil and Nigeria are leagues apart in terms of technical efficiency.

That's actually the new controller.
You put it on your head and dance while your brainwaves are registered and emit orders to the console, it's pretty intuitive.

I went thru 3 xbox360's in a month and half. I raised a big enough stink to get a full refund bought a ps3 never looked back. Sure glad I got the first run of ps3's sure they were expensive but it has all the gizmos as advertised. I put in a 700gb hd and I haven't had any problems ever.
Seems like all the newer versions have less and less features.

It's probably the thrown together bootleg ps3 they sell in the black markets of brazil/nigera.

Sony Exec: Leak images of the new slim PS3, then deny there is a new slim PS3.

Thought of that LRR Microsoft skit they did a couple of months back.

Silly Jedi you know they won't remove features until they've already advertised them.

They'll probably remove hardware support for the OtherOS feature and they might even remove the free PSN network access. The PS3 still sold well after removing it's main feature so let's see what happens when the next main feature is removed!

PS3, now with 100% added fugly.
