Dawnguard Finally Goes Multiplatform
Dawnguard Finally Goes Multiplatform ![]() Shortly after claiming no official timetable, Bethesda has released Dawnguard on PC. PC and PS3 gamers looking forward to Dawnguard, Skyrim's first expansion, got some bad news late last week. Although Dawnguard had already been released exclusively on the Xbox 360 and had stayed there for 30 days as a 'timed exclusive,' the DLC was nowhere to be found on other platforms. Bethesda Marketing Executive Pete Hines then shot down any hopes of a quick multiplatform release, saying that there was no announcement planned for the expansion's release on PC or PS3. But in a sudden turnabout, Bethesda has not only confirmed that Dawnguard is landing on the PS3 and PC, but that it's actually already available on the latter. The surprise announcement came during QuakeCon 2012, less than a week after Hines' discouraging statement over Twitter. Bethesda didn't mention why Hines played down the possibility of Dawnguard's multiplatform release so close to the official announcement. Bethesda may have not nailed down the exact release dates at the time of Hines' tweet, or it may have just wanted to keep things under wraps to surprise QuakeCon attendees. Either way, the news was good for PC gamers, who can get the DLC from Steam right now for $19.99, but bad for PS3 owners, who will have to wait longer. Bethesda explained the PS3 version's delay in its blog, stating that the company is "not satisfied yet with Dawnguard's performance on the PS3." It's understandable that Bethesda would take extra precautions for this expansion, considering that the PS3 version of Skyrim was notoriously laggy compared to the PC and Xbox 360 versions. Bethesda did not give an indication of when the expansion will make it to the PS3.
They should give it at a discount for PS3 owners for making us wait the longest. I know they won't but it'd be cool to see it at $17 or $18 instead of $20.
Sure, take your time Bethesda, take your time. By the time it does comes out I will be too busy playing Borderlands 2 to care.
I'm pretty sure advertisements for this have been floating around on Steam for weeks now. This isn't terribly surprising.
Actually there where no advertisements at all.The dlc just pop in the steam without warning
Waiting for a price drop.
D-Did Bethesda just troll everyone?
That's exactly what I thought when I saw it pop on Steam last night! I was like, "Wait ... didn't they just say they had no plans for this on PC for now? Then how can they have it out less than a week later?!? Bethesda's been trolling us!"
Wow.. well thanks for warning me...
I'll bet money it'll still buggy as shit on PS3 no matter what.
That price is a bit high isn't it? What do I actually get other than vampire and werewolfness, since in that price range I almost expect full blown expansion.
well, they have it up on the steam website
a lot of mods can do this stuff already, but most of the content featured here is the storyline stuff
Sure, you American people can buy Dawnguard for that price. Me, I would have to pay US$24.99 for it because I live six thousand miles away. Why am I paying more for the same content (before exchange rates) because I live in New Zealand? Something about regions, that's the reason they gave me when I asked about prices of certain items last year. That is my one gripe with Steam: the fact that they charge me higher prices for the exact same items.
Crisis averted people nothing to see here.
Yes, it's about Region Distribution and Regional Pricing... the necessity of which can be argued for physical media but totally falls apart in the face of digital distribution except for companies involved in physical distribution have pulled every trick they can think of to keep digital pricing schemes welded to regional distro and pricing schemes so that digital versions have no price advantage over physical ones. (See: GAME UK Vs Steam and Bandai Namco Vs CDP/GoG) Unfortunately, Valve haven't grown a pair and so still support this bullshit... which is why Publishers still use Steam. So the short answer from Publishers and Distributors is "Fuck you, that's why."
Yeah as a fellow NZer I can't justify this price-tag. Skyrim alone was pushing it for me. We get lumped in with Australia, who to be fair actually have a higher purchasing power than the US, but we don't and we still get screwed. Australians like to complain about this thing a lot, but in NZ we have it much worse. I also feel that bethesda dropped the ball with this 360 exclusive. Ignoring the fact that they're blatantly ignoring their original customers who tided them through until today (PC players), they are probably expecting some losses from people who have forgotten about this DLC from the wait against the people that microsoft gained by having it here. I know I would've been more interested (more bought into the hype) in buying this last month than now, when I'm avoiding it due to price and proximity to Guild Wars2 coming out.
Bethesda has to give Microsoft the 30 day exclusive since they used Microsoft tech in the creation kit. Also I finished it. Seriously. Its literally like they added a HUGE amount of new stuff to the game. To get it, I just saved a couple bucks every week and got it. How long will 20 bucks of booze or smokes last you?
Tbh its going to be too late for me to get dawnguard for the ps3 especially at that kind of price. Ive just Platinum Trophied Skyrim and i tend to loose interest in replaying a game after that.
You're not alone, it's €20,- for people in the EU. Which comes down to $24,6 dollars. It's a pretty outrageous price for DLC.
Bit too late there Bethesda.
Naturally. | |
I'm guessing they said that because they were doing bug-fixes for PS3 and weren't sure if they had to do some more for the PC at the time, so they didn't know when it would be ready.
Or this. | |
Right... Time to figure out which of the dozens of mods I have installed is conflicting with Dawnguard and causing idle animations to return to default. And they wonder why the PC launch got delayed.
Now this may just be my ignorant american self asking a silly question but... doesn't damn near everything cost more in NZ and Aus?
I'm glad that it's for sale, but seriously, why let someone go on record as telling the public there were no plans or release date for Dawnguard whatsoever, days before it was released? Seriously, that guy is a prick and a marketing disaster. All he did was earn the ire of fans waiting for news about it. All you have to say is "It's coming, we don't know when".
Steam pricing at its finest! Steam should just have a flat price for everyone regardless of where you live, like GoG and some other DDPs. It's frankly stupid that in this day and age, in particular with entirely digital distribution, that one person should have to pay significantly more for the same product from the same place.
I think Hines isn't commenting on release dates because Bethesda doesn't want to make promises it can't keep.
Bethesda refusing to comment on when it's coming to PSN, they seem to have this new policy of releasing it without a sound then going "What do you mean delayed, it's right there and has been all along!"... so expect it tomorrow.
What killed me were the wiki sites. Fallout wikia was advertising 'download Dawnguard Now!' 2-3 weeks before it came out. I was clicking the link, thinking 'sheesh they were pretty quiet about this release'.
I was looking forward to this DLC,until I bought it started to play and encountered a game breaking bug that wouldn't progress my game(Serena not using her blood for the portal).Wonder how long will last until they release a patch. Well, that was a waste of money.
