SimCity Amusement Park DLC is Out Now

SimCity Amusement Park DLC is Out Now

In a move that should surprise no-one, the previously leaked DLC is now available for $10 USD.

Guess what? SimCity has some more DLC, and this time it won't require you to advertise for Nissan or buy toothpaste. Yes, the SimCity amusement park DLC, that was leaked a few weeks ago is now available on the Origin Store for $10 USD. The extra content allows you to build and customize a theme park with nine rides, three entry gates and five concessions stands.

The pack also adds five new missions, which should make it easier to ramp up your Tourism specialization. The full listing of rides you can place are: a merry-go-round, a Ferris wheel, the trapeze, a mini train station, a go-kart Speedway, the Astro Rocket Ride and the Dizzy drop roller coaster. It looks like all the new buildings are "ploppable" and should all interact with each other. If you can find room in your tiny city to put them all, that is.

Maxis recently released a 4.0 patch for the game, which added a free "launch park" for early adopters and chipped away at some of the game's most glaring bugs. The Mac version of the game should also be out later this month, and it looks like Maxis wants new Mac gamers to have plenty of DLC to purchase before they realize just how broken the game actually is.

So what do you guys think, is this DLC enough to entice you back into the game? It seems a bit money-grubbing to be producing paid DLC when there are still many, many complaints about game-breaking bugs. I feel like Maxis has missed a goodwill gesture here - they could have offered this DLC for free. I'm not going to come back to the game for a $10 DLC pack, but I might come back to it for some free content.

As of today, buying sim city was the biggest waste of 50.00 in my gaming career. Maybe I will play it in a year once all the bugs are worked out (I'm not holding my breath).

I wouldn't play SimCity even if someone gave it to me for free.

As broken as the game is and as bad as this DLC is, Sim City 5 gave me well over 100 hours of gameplay and I got dead space 3 out of it for free. All in all I would say it was a great game and a good purchase.

Ah, SimCity's DLC the worst kept secret since Project Titan...

And captcha is doing it again 'whoopee cushion'

Yeah, that's my thought about SimCity too, Captcha...

$10 for a tiny 'merry-go-round, a Ferris wheel, the trapeze, a mini train station, a go-kart Speedway, the Astro Rocket Ride and the Dizzy drop roller coaster' this seems awefully... aweful.

A previous Escapist article said only 5 people play Sim City anymore. There are 5 people in this post excluding myself and the topic poster. I think we have here the only 5 who play it anymore.

and you'll have to demolish your half your city to have room for it, because EA is going to make you use that regional multiplayer even if it kills the game.

and why would you want an amusement park, university, and oil refinery in your city anyways?

It seems EA's entire response to Simcity is this:

Except instead of keys, its a bunch of DLC for a game no one wants or plays anymore.

I didn't even realise SimCityOnline was still a thing.

Just in time for me to not give a damn.

Good first post new-bro!

OT: as for EAs mind set: Executive 1"Ok guys, we fucked up the ending of mass Effect 3, how can we piss off gamers more?" Executive 2 "Lets make Sim city... Online?" Executive 1 "Brilliant! The retards will eat that shit up! send it to Maxis and get out the obedience whips!"

Really though, if they really wanted to sell DLC they would expand the cities by double or triple and sell "super city" DLC packs. So glad I wasnt stupid enough to waste my money on this game.

Not mine. I got a free copy of Need for Speed: Most Wanted out of it. That game is great, and well with the fifty bucks I spent on SimCity.

P.S. Thanks

I made the mistake of pre-ordering it, not downloading it. Oh well, its mine forever because of the DRM so maybe someday I will pick it up again. I had a lot of fun with the other ones.

Did the guy who make DLC forget and booted up his Roller Coaster Tycoon game and said "This is what I've been working on the past however much time I've had to work on this"?

"Why yes, we have the balls to charge for this..."

Far from making me want to play Sim City, it makes me wish for a sequel to Rollercoaster Tycoon. I loved those games.

Steven Bogos:
Huh?

Where's the burning building images? That was tradition!

I kind of misread the title, as Sims Amusement park DLC.

It made me think the Sims would turn into some kind of Rollercoaster tycoon.

or alternatively, you could go play rollercoaster tycoon and a GOOD simcit back to back and have an infinitely better time doing so.

Atari is selling the rights next month, so it may happen. Atari sure as hell isn't using it.

I hope nobody buys this... I hope nobody buys anything EA at all until they stop being douchebags, and until SimCity has MUCH bigger cities to play with...

So Sim City 5 didn't have amusement parks, even though Sim City 2000, a game from over a decade ago, included as part of the actual package? Not to mention Sim City 3 and 4 both had Amusement parks already available in the game without DLC. The entire direction of the game industry just keeps getting dumber and dumber.

For $10 you could have bought both the Humble Bundle 8 and the Weekly Humble Bundle. This nets you:

-14 quality games
-All the episodes of The Walking Dead, one of 2012's best games.
-The joy of supporting Indie developers
-The pleasure of giving away to charity

Or instead, you could buy yourself 7 virtual models of amusement rides.

...

Virtual buildings it is!

Career? I didn't realise hobbies were careers? Does it work like The Sims?

yamy:
Humble snip

Thanks a million for reminding me! This will keep me occupied till summer sale starts.

OT: Thank you EA for reminding me to play Rollercoaster Tycoon. It's been a while.

EDIT: Turns out the disk has had it :( Off to GOG I go =D

Yeah the worst part is when they delete my toilet! :p

I did do a lot of play testing in the older days, so maybe it was more of a part time career.

maybe I was being to harsh on simcity, I mean it has great intentions but the execution was just too buggy. I might just bust it out to see how it plays NOW (stopped playing it a day or two after release).

I think you mis-spelled "greedier and greedier".

I loved the original-port of Sim City on the Super Nintendo. I played that for ages and probably still would every now and then if I still had my SNES (along with Secret of Mana, but that's another story).

I played Sim City... 3000? I think it was, but I found it far too complicated with too much micro-management, which I suppose may be considered odd for a Sim Game, but I disliked it because I found it too hard to "pick up 'n' play" without having needed to study the instruction manual for a few hours beforehand.

I did not know that. Makes me quite excited for a new RCT. Hell, I'd even settle for a new THRILLVILLE. Yes, I know, kids game. It's fun, shut up. But yeah, RCT3 is a game I go back to on a regular basis. Yes you read that one right to. The third one. Come at me.

OT: Don't care, good luck EA.

Wasn't one of the problems people had with SimCity that the cramped plots they expected you to build on didn't really give you room to play with a lot of extraneous stuff?

So their answer to DLC is... give people more extraneous stuff?

I'm beginning to wonder if this is not so much DLC as a kind of extravagant self-satire...

Ah, no space to build buildings, lets give more waste of space buildings, and make them pay for it. watch out, the patch 5.0 will make sure the game wont run till you buy this DLC (also patch 4.0? seriuosly? The good games rarely ever reach 2.0 did they rebuild whole game 4 times now? no? then whats up with the completely idiotic naming?)

Olrod:

Don't worry about it. Crest/Oral-B didn't know The Sims Social was about to not become a thing when they were offering stuff for it as a promo tie-in.

It's hard to keep track.
