EA Says Penises Are Fine, But No Boobs, Please

image

EA doesn't seem to mind the giant penis monsters, but a purple boob beast has apparently gone beyond the borders of good taste.

PC Gamer Editor-in-Chief Kristen Salvatore received a harsh reminder of what it's like to be a woman in a male dominated field when her "Boobalicious" Spore creature was flagged by EA for violating its terms of service.

Following the creation of a hideously deformed giant penis monster by Tim Edwards of PC Gamer U.K., which he claimed in a CVG post as the world's first Spore penis, Salvatore decided there could be only one appropriate response: To create a more femininely-endowed beast of her own, the not-quite-creatively name Boobalicious.

Unfortunately for her, the four-legged funbagger stood out from the multi-thousand-strong phallic phalanx, earning the attention of EA's customer relations department, which sent her the following email:

Your Electronic Arts account has been flagged for violating the Electronic Arts Inc Terms of Service. We believe that the violation or behavior is serious enough to bring to your attention as it may impact your future access to the service.

Violation: Inappropriate Content -Creature
Violation Type: Nudity
Asset Name:Boobalicious

Understanding the EA Terms of Service is extremely important, should you have any general questions or concerns please review the Terms of Service. Should you then need additional assistance, or wish to appeal a violation, you can contact us.

Sincerely,
Customer Support

GamesRadar says Salvatore, who is currently in Los Angeles for a pre-E3 event, has emailed EA about the Boobalicious brouhaha and is still awaiting a reply.

I take it my pink, gentle & rippling, flower-shaped creature isn't going to go over well either?

EA, bad games and sexism.

That doesn't even look like boobs.

I don't know what to say here other than that I still don't like EA very much.

I think it's because a lot of creatures could be phallus-shaped without even being that on purpose. Boobs are much more identifiable. Also, I'm guessing 99.9999999% of EA's staff are man. <cough> <cough> sexism <cough> <cough> who said that????

Honostly, what did they (EA) expect? They're giving the ability to create any type of creature to a world of immature people. There's going to be sex jokes left and right. I do find it to be hypocritical that they'd allow a Penis ceature and not a Breast Creature, but that's besides the point. Go on any gaming site where you can upload vids, and you will find a multitude of sexually themed creatures from Spore that people created on the first day of the demo.

So EA employees are fine with looking at piles of penises, yet they can't stand looking at a pair of tits?

What did they expect? A four legged version of the Sistine effing Chapel?

Beat me to it.

Boobies!

*mature giggle*

You know how I know you're gay. You like Penises over Boobs.

The awesome part is that if you look at that thing from the other side you'll probably find it's got a pretty fantastic ass, too.

Well we can all admit that one of the creatures is definitely more titillating than the other. That said, EA needs to let nature just take its course.

you sir, have made my day.

The best part is that the tit monster was made by a woman, priceless.

Just proves EA is gay. They love penises and hate boobs. (I don't actually mind EA)

On another note, I was looking forward to spore until I actually saw most of the created creatures. All of them have something coming out of their anus. Arm, leg, another FACE, you name it. I wouldn't be surprised if in the actual game you're given the choice of customizing your creature's number of anuses...

The double standard over geneital portrayl in the entertainment industries is just irritating in the extreme.

EA - the main reason why it sucks to be a gamer.

In my opinion that hardly counts EA asked for this, maybe they wanted to create a new type of porn and have the WHOLE world have a go at it.

With all these penises around, don't you know it!

Cha-ching!

Wow, that's nuts.

tailsandy:
Wow, that's nuts.

Yeah, quite a cock-up.

I think EA should be the ones to take the hit for this. They release the game with no less than 30 nude creatures in it from the start. There's not a single piece of clothing between them, and then they complain when someone finds the perfect camouflage. I mean, with all the penises running around, when they see that thing they won't be able to fight, they'll all be erect and toppling over.

OK, I think I'm just gunna make a creature thats just a lovely giant BALLSACK....with eyes...and a thick beard(HAHAHA) that'll keep EA excited.

This is the final nail in EA's Gay Coffin. Fist that yearly grab-ass fest, Madden, and now this?

that made me chuckle anyways thats weird.... at best ...

L.B. Jeffries:
I take it my pink, gentle & rippling, flower-shaped creature isn't going to go over well either?

Nor will my gaping maw filled with pincers...

...What?

Does it mean we can now have cocks on screen, for all the family? Only boobs seem problematic.
I imagine Jackson pulling out Timberlake's weapon and the audience shrugging.

I think I can put aside the morons who make giant genital monsters, because this is the BEST GAME EVER.

Is anyone else reminded of Valley of the Penises by Mr. Garrison? It's like EA took that book to heart.

On a side note, I do think I have just pissed myself laughing.

vun:

I guess that says something about EA employees...

Yeah, I'm not sure why you guys are going with the knee-jerk reaction of "ZOMG IT"S CLEARLY SEXISM". If it was sexism it would make much more sense if they banned the penises and allowed the boobs.

Secondly, we don't know that EA isn't going around and sending out warnings to creators of penis monsters. The article ASSUMES that just because one guy who made a penis monster didn't get a warning, then the rest of the penis monsters creators didn't get warnings. Basically, the headline is completely sensationalist and is a big no-no in journalistic ethics.

Shame on you Escapist.

yeah EA really shafted us gamers.

Hurray for exploiting men! It's about time!

My friend made me say that...
