Saints Row IV Stars Nolan North as Himself
Saints Row IV Stars Nolan North as Himself ![]() This time, the archetypical everyman voice actor gets to step out of the recording booth and into the action. The Saints Row series has always put a lot of thought into character customization. This extends to a selection of possible personalities for your main character, each with its own voice actor. One of the new voices you can choose for your protagonist in Saints Row IV, however, may sound familiar - very familiar. Nolan North, video game voice actor extraordinaire, will be one possible set of pipes for Saints Row IV's over the top president. But if you think he'll just be a standard wacky protagonist, you're in for a surprise: Nolan North is playing none other than Nolan North. The last Saints Row title had seven options for the main character's voice - three male and three female voices which followed roughly the same script, and a humorous seventh voice (the zombie) that was notably... distinct. This time around it seems the formula is still the same, but North fills the unique seventh slot by actually acting as himself - voice actor turned president turned super-powered savior of humanity. It's more subtle than the laughably unintelligible grunts of the zombie voice from the third game, but expect more than a few doses of self-referential humor towards North and his extensive voice acting career. North is probably best known as the voice of Uncharted's Nathan Drake, but he also voices main characters in Assassin's Creed, Deadpool, and roughly a third of the games in existence. Wow, they actually DID top Burt Renolds. I'm really excited for the insanity, as described by Nolan North playing Nolan North.
That's great, I think I know what voice I will pick. XD
Some of my favorite Nolan North characters are the cartoony ones he's done and this seems perfect. Go to 1:40 on that video. Then he did Sigmund in A Crack in Time: I remember Nolan saying that he likes doing cartoony and non-serious roles.
SOLD. AGAIN. I'm actually pretty excited for this. I thought the Third was.. okay, I guess. I made the mistake of playing it before 2, and I just couldn't get into it (the controls and character movement were the deal breakers for me), so hopefully, this game will be the one to rock tits into absolute dust.
I have to admit, that is different. I wonder what the jokes will be like?
Northception. *BOONNNGG* After playing/laughing my way through Deapool, I welcome this addition.
"Where is Bruce Campbell when you need him?"
Well, having seen Nolan North turn in some fantastic out-of-the-box performances in the last couple years (the Penguin from Arkham City and Capt. Walker from Spec Ops come to mind), it'll be nice to get back to Nolan just being a complete ham.
There needs to be a co-op game starring Nolan North and Steve Blum as the two protagonists.
Saints Row is making me choose between being player self insertion Troy Baker or literal self insertion Nolan North?
This will most definitely make me replay the game again. I usually play a female saint like I did in SR3, but with this news I think I will try it once just for kicks for Nolan's sake.
SHHH! You're ruining the surprise 8th voice!
Would it be possible to play as a female Saint with North's voice? If not, why not? OT: My respect for people like Nolan North grows exponentially when they do things like this. It's kind of like Michael Bolton being in "Captain Jack Sparrow."
That.. Is a pretty reasonable escalation really.. I like this, it makes me laugh.
That is....actually a really clever and ingenious tactic to legitimately USE Nolan North! Don't see many games get creative like this, it's nice to see and I'd love to see/hear the actual execution.
Damn it! damn it! | |
Seems like the next logical step for him. All hail Nolan North, our president and leader of the free world!
Now the choice becomes difficult, do I go with Troy Baker, or with Nolan North as Nolan North? Aw fuck it, I'll play it at least twice, so I'll use a different one each time.
Play a male human in Guild Wars 2, go quest for the Charr. Right now, that's as close as you get.
Can I use his voice playing as my overweight black woman wearing nothing but a dressing gown and bunny slippers? Sold if so.
Pretty certain you were able to use male voices in female bodies and female voices in male bodies so I don't see why not. Also, fuck now I need 3 characters. British guy, white chick, Nolan North. I'm gonna play so much Saints Row IV that I'll go insane from the insane.
Huh, so that's what every male voice in every game ever looks like.
That one episode of Unskippable called it: "Nolan North isn't just playing the same voice, he's playing the same CHARACTER in every game."
What can I say other than: "Sweet."
This sounds awesome, but I wanna keep playing as Lust. Oh well, I guess I'd have to do a second playthrough. Oh woe is me.
I think I might have mistyped there. I meant a full playthrough with a female saint then replay it with a male with Nolan's voice. Although I do agree female saint with Nolan's voice might be hilarious to see.
"You know voice actors. Bunch of bitchy little girls." I'd seriously kill to get Bruce Campbell as a character voice. Seriously... who needs to die to get this to happen?!
