Wonder Woman Is Israel's Gal Gadot

I'll be at least interested to see what form this version of Wonder Woman will take.

I wish her the best of luck. She will need it, DC has been rolling a lot of Critical Misses lately.

I swear, Batman is the only DC property WB remotely gives a shit about. For everyone else they just draw random names out of a hat. A random model dude for Superman, a random model dude for Nightwing, a random model dude for Wonder Woman...

IT'S LIKE THEY'RE TRYING TO MAKE A FEATURE LENGTH COMMERCIAL FILLED WITH GENERIC PRETTY PEOPLE OR SOMETHING. I CAN'T IMAGINE WHY.

I mean you could have at least picked the OTHER exotic, attractive, of that age for the character, can actually act and has an actual personality/screen presence Fast & Furious woman? I'm sure Jaime Alexander wouldn't have minded pulling double duty as both Sif and Wonder Woman. She barely does anything in the Thor movies anyways so it's not like Marvel would miss her THAT much. If they were able to replace Edward freaking Norton competently, they could do the same with her. I mean come on, work with me here, Warner Bros. At least PRETEND you were trying hard at this, instead of simply letting the world know that you couldn't give a shit who cosplays as your characters just as long as you have something ready to compete with the next Avengers movie. Then again I can always appreciate that kind of honesty...

Thank God for Marvel and their basic competency.

Well she looks the part.

Look the part ? She slender and got no musculature. Wonder Woman is a curvacious and athletic/chiseled (depending on representation). If you allow me to use Angry Joe word, she need to gain 40 pounds at the gym.

But do think she could look the part if she actually did gain some mass.

For some reason, I just want to see that freak accident of a WB movie that would be. =p

I swear I'm beginning to think that the CEO of DC comics hates DC comics. At the very least, they want an Avenger's movie without understanding what went into making Avengers work. Just trying to force feed several characters into a movie won't cut it.

Wonder Woman should get her own movie which establishes her as a stand alone character capable of handling her own threats. Not a cameo (which I've heard rumors is all this will be) in another character's movie. Establishing that it's all part of a bigger universe and hinting at the other characters with nods to the Daily Planet and Wayne Enterprises is one thing. But I'm not impressed by what I'm hearing here.

For crying out loud, she's probably the most famous female super hero and has even had a successful TV show. A bit part in a bigger film seems like a slap in the face. Even a larger role in a bigger film isn't much better.

Really people? You are going to judge her just based on looks? I'm not arguing that she'll be perfect for the role, mind you. But saying she won't work in the role just because she's not "buff"? That's a bit unfair, especially considering Christian Bale.

The picture on the left is Christian Bale in 2004's The Machinist. The picture on the right is Christian Bale in Batman Begins a year later. The gap in filming for those two movies? About six months. In that time gap, he put on about 60 pounds through diet and exercise in order to "buff up" for the role. I think it is safe to say that Gal could do something quite similar, especially since she is not starting from as thin as Christian Bale, and is not trying to get as big as Christian Bale.

Bale is a method actor who's insane to boot. This woman is a pretty face who got famous off her pretty face and isn't going to jeopardize her body for a bit part. This is a ludicrous comparison.

I'm just saying that writing her off for not being in shape is a bit unfair. Let me also point out something mentioned in the article.

"It interrupted her army time, but after a three year absence she went back in and served as a fitness instructor."

If anyone should be able to get into good shape and buff up safely without jeopardizing their body, it's a fitness instructor. Plus, saying she's just a pretty face is a bit unfair, considering that she was in the Israeli army.

I don't think anyone's writing her off for being too thin. We are saying that right now she is too thin for the role however and she will need to put on some muscle to play the role convincingly. That's not a criticism of her or suggesting that there isn't enough time for her to do it. It's just stating a simple fact.

As for her being a fitness instructor, I've got to be honest with you here, I've met and talked to quite a few fitness instructors, and seen the programs they put together for people. Many of them don't really have a clue how to put together an effective training program, and in some cases don't even know as much as they should about physiology and exercise to be competent in their jobs to be honest. And in a lot of militaries, historically speaking anyway, the basic standard for fitness has been inadequate, and the physical fitness training provided less than ideal for training for the actual demands of the job. Not to say that they're useless, they're just not nearly as effective as they could, or should, be.

My point being, her simply being a fitness instructor instills absolutely no confidence in me as far as how knowledgeable she is about how to train properly. That said, knowing Zack Snyder, she will almost certainly be working her ass off to get into physical shape for the role (and assuming she has to do any flying wire work or stunts, she'd better because that stuff can be hard and, in some cases, even dangerous if the physical strength and endurance isn't there.

You realize Henry Cavill is a fairly accomplished actor with some notable roles in some fairly acclaimed works under his belt right?

Well she looks the part.

She seems horribly undernourished for an Amazon. Why does she "look the part", she's got dark hair?

Bulk up I guess? I mean look at those arms! I really don't get why cast this person as Wonder Woman. She's shown no range, doesn't look the part and her biggest role so far has been parading her skinny ass and whoring out because a man told her to.

OK guys, now that you made this APPARENT mistake, the only thing you have to do is feed Gal with proteins, feed her with cow liver, make her go to the gym to do actual weightlifting (DONT make her waste carbohydrates running), contract a trainer that is also a stuntman with the caliber of... i dont know, Tiger Chen for instance, make her gain 40 pounds at the gym.... Do that or youre DOOMED.
(Also dont start bitching, Henry Cavill is an excellent Superman, and remember when everyone went batshit because Heath Ledger was hired to play the Joker)

Oh yeah, he was great in...erm....Goodbye Mr. Chips....and...The Cold Light of Day....and....Immortals...how could I have missed such a STELLAR filmography?!?

(Yeah he was on The Tudors too, but that ridiculousness might as well be on the CW with its pretty-ifying of King Henry VIII and everyone else around him.)

And even still he showed not of that "acclaim" in Man of Steel. In a cast full of flat blandness, he was arguably the flattest and blandest of 'em all.

Johnny Novgorod:

Wait, THAT was her? Christ, no wonder I couldn't remember which part she "played"...again, it says something when you fail to stand out in a franchise designed to have larger than life characters.

This is Megan Fox all over again, where some interchangeable generically "hot" chick keeps getting major roles just by being interchangeable and generically "hot" chick.

Looking at her arms and hips damn near made me throw up. This does not inspire confidence in the slightest in regards to her ability to play anything other than a meth addict.

I'm not exactly sitting on a list of excellent Wonder Woman choices right now but seriously this is the best they can fucking do? If we're going the just whoever route at least start with a skilled actress and buff her up.

I was hoping Gina Carano. Gal Gadot has not really proven herself to be a good actress in my opinion. That said, I'm not sure how great an actor one needs to be to pay a super hero. I think her accent will be a little bit odd for wonder woman.

If they were just going to say "fuck it" for the casting I would have loved to see Olga Kurkulina take on the role just for the hell of it.

I'd make sure Gina Torres' hat was tossed into that ring, if we're talking wish lists.

No talent, no similarities and (insert would not bang joke here) not particularly good looking makes me feel they truly went "fuck it". I wanna know WHAT was the deciding factor for casting her. She was available?

Ok... So one question. Why isn't Wonder Woman part of the movie billing? I mean, these are the big three DC characters. You'd think they'd just take the initiative and call it "Justice League: Origins" or something.

They should totally give the part to Julia Vins:

lol jk, she's too short... and Russian.

If it was over women from the Fast and Furious series, why not the consummate tough woman, Michelle Rodriguez? I think she'd be more believeable. I find her pretty damn hot, too.
Just my crazy lil'opinion.

Oh, Christian bale has been doing this for years.

The difference between Gal and Christian is that Gal's "Acting" ends with looking pretty.

And now we know what will be the topic of next week's episode of the Big Picture.
