Round 2 of The Escapist's Reader's Choice GOTY 2013 Begins - Vote Now!
Round 2 of The Escapist's Reader's Choice GOTY 2013 Begins - Vote Now! What does Tomb Raider, Mario and XCOM have in common? They all got voted out of the Reader's Choice Game of the Year 2013 tournament! But there are 8 amazing games left to fight it out. Round 1 of the tournament bracket for the Reader's Choice GOTY 2013 is in the books, and there were a few upsets. Papers, Please soundly defeated XCOM: Enemy Within, and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag pulled out a win against Saints Row 4. You can see all the results, including final vote counts, here in the forum for Game of the Year. There are new intriguing matchups in the next round, with Papers, Please up against StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm and Pokemon fighting it out with The Last of Us. Round 2 voting is open now, so head over to the official tournament bracket to let your voice be heard! Here are some of the more interesting battles of this round: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag vs. Grand Theft Auto VMany people think GTAV is a shoo-in for many people's Game of the Year choice, but Assassin's Creed has a pirate ship going for it. There's no denying the technical achievement of GTAV, no matter your opinion on the shitbag main characters, but the sheer fun factor of piloting your ship over the waves of the Caribean in AC4 might be enough to offset the popularity of Los Santos. The Last of Us vs. Pokemon X & YThe PS3 exclusive against the 3DS exclusive! Sony vs. Nintendo! This matchup may have the most differing games in terms of genre, but there's a lot to consider. Should the excellent story-telling and world-building of a new IP like Last of Us prevail over the tried-and-true formula of Pokemon? Original story-telling usually trumps endless iterations. On the other hand, this new generation of Pokemon is better than ever. On the third hand, plant zombies! Decisions! And of course, there's always BioShock: Infinite vs. Battlefield 4 ... I wonder which game is going to win that one? -- Head to the official tournament bracket to vote in all four matchups now! Voting is open until Tuesday, December 17th until 11:59pm EST, so you have seven days to rattle the chains and get yoru friends to vote for the game you think should be The Escapist's Reader's Choice Game of the Year 2013!
Well my bracket isn't totally ruined, but I had Saints Row in the semis and I put XCOM in the finals because damn it I love XCOM! At least I still have The Last of Us in the competition...
Once again, shitbag main characters in Grand Theft Auto V are the POINT, but I digress... Assassin's Creed 4 is still my 'GotY,' and I'm glad it's gotten this far. Come on guys, lets all vote for whale murder! Fuck those beautiful, intelligent, caring, and graceful creatures! Especially Killer Whales, what with their complex emotional states, seperate languages, and strong family bonds. What a bunch of dicks!
Eh while ass creed 4 is good, its not unique or technically brilliant enough for me personally to want to vote for it over anything else, the melee combat just feels bad in the game, it been awhile since i played the old ones but combat felt better in the past, or maybe i have played too much batman arkham games. Single player story is nothing to write home about, too much sneaky in the missions, not enough variety especially for a main character that isnt a damn assasssin. Tomb raider is the one game in that whole bracket that i expected little but when i played it i played it through to the end. I wanted to see what happened, i wanted to explore that next tomb. good story good characters for the most part. Not played gta5 till it comes out on pc, so i have 0 opinion on that, but saints was fun, it was over the top crazy and good fun, just not enough depth or staying power to hold a goty spot for me.
I still can't believe Saints Row IV lost. I had that pegged as my top choice for GOTY.
C'mon Pokémon, you can do this!!
So a pokemon game got more votes than Tomb Raider? This thing just went from semi-interesting to stupid in one round.
Ac4 vs GTAV is not "more interesting" than Papers Please vs. SC2 Hots. Way to show your bias, OP.
What, AC4 beat SR IV? Well, putting two sandbox games against each other pretty much jammed my predictability radar.
No real surprises for me, out of the eight left, only Starcraft wasn't in mine, as XCom was instead. Although seeing as it is very unlikely to win, my bracket is looking on target to match the final results. My predictions: Papers Please will beat StarCraft 2. The finals will become trickier.
I like those predictions Legion. I think you're spot on except for pokemon. There are a LOT of pokemon fans out there. Greg
True. That was a blow. Good thing we get to choose The Escapist Award for Game of the Year.
Is voting working for others? I'm only getting the proceed to next battle button for the round two matchups, and the first one has my incorrect answer vs papers please.
The XCOM project has failed. Humanity is doomed thanks to a certain country betraying us and allying with the extraterrestrials. Wait, who are you? What are you doinfgngjvhvngbg... *crash, sounds of struggling, glass shattering*
\ We're only voting on the Second Round now. Round 3 starts next week! Greg
