Star Wars: Episode VII Cast Announced

They couldn't find anybody better than the dork from that creepy "About Time" movie?

I like Oscar Isaac though, hope he's the lead (or whatever is going to pass for lead in this group of scrappy rag tag underdogs)

Seeing the name Max von Sydow alone makes me happy. Is it not an epic name? Plus he's going to be in the movie? Awesome!

Still,

comes to mind knowing that the EU is out as far as Disney is concerned, and seeing that cast.

P.S. Also missing Lando. :/ Nice seeing some originals coming back, though.

Nah, Oscar is too old. I think the holy trinity of this one is going to be John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and that creepy boy. Being that creepy boy is the only young white dude, he's probably the Jedi lead. Ever picture I've seen of him on google image search has made me want to barf. The only time he looked decent is when he had a full beard in Anna Karenina.

There might be a surprise twist and John will be the Jedi lead, or hell, they'll be edgy and have Daisy be the Jedi lead. But knowing J.J Abrams, John's a sidekick. Daisy will look pretty, reward the heroes, and to have a call back to the original movies, she will end up chained and in a some sexy outfit for the fan boys.

Is it just me in thinking that those two look alike? Like, super alike?
I am more than happy and willing to give a new actress every and all chance to take on her own role in a new film, but I can't shake that either she's going to only be used in some kind of flashbacks or some kind of stand-in for Padme.

Jeez, not all white chicks look alike, jerk.(kidding)

She's likely Leia's daughter. Picked for strong family resemblance reasons.

Calling it now ... her name will be Padme Solo.

Kind of amazed that there is only Carrie and Daisy as female leads, I mean really? I know EU is dead but come on there were more females out there then Leia and her daughter. Mara, Tahiri, "Scout' from the Clone wars, Tenel Ka, Mirax Horn ... plenty of strong female charater found in EU and JJ could only come up with one for the new trilogy? I don't know, just seems short sight really.

Oh look... There is one female charchter

That's.....that's great guys....really keep up the good work

At first I was thinking 'Max von Sydow! Duke Leto in Star Wars?' but then I realised I was getting him mixed up with Jurgen Procknow. Still, he did play Dr. Kynes in Dune. If we visit Tatooine again......

Oscar Isaac was brilliant in Inside Llewellyn Davis and how he didn't get an Oscar nomination still irks me, He'll be brilliant in this. Adam Driver in ILD As well, very good casting from my point of view.

I recognize a couple names, but I'm glad to see that they aren't pulling off the current "most famous" lists.

Well I'm a fan of Max von Sydow

Blame parents for this one as much as JJ. Parents buy Star Wars toys for little boys, not little girls, so the roster is going to reflect that.

I am expecting a solid movie but nothing revolutionary. Disney has too much invested in Star Wars to let this one be bad. Most remakes are a cash grab centered around the movie itself. Disney is playing the longer game here: merchandising and the expansion of their library of viable brands. The last thing they want is a cut rate movie further damaging the brand.

But it wont be for us. It might be good, but it wont be for us.

To the people complaining about male:female ratio in the casting so far, there's some good news:

"Abrams likely has several other surprises up his sleeves, so fans who were outraged over the male-to-female ratio (six-to-one) amongst new cast members would do well to relax. Abrams is still looking to cast a major female role, which will likely be filled by an actress of mixed race."

I get a REALLY bad feeling about this. For one, no Billy Dee Williams, a man whose voice is so sensual even his performance in Tiberium Wars was entertaining. For another, bringing back All of the old actors to reprise their roles for a movie which came out 40 years ago. I mean, they aren't bad actors, but there's a reason there aren't that many people who do action movies past age 60. There's RED and The Expendables sure, but you can tell they really had to work around the physical limitations of the elder actors to make it work and it was only really passable because both movies were really cheesy to begin with.

Not that star-wars is super serious, but it was definitely more straight-faced than the other 2 I mentioned and I fear how well this will turn out if the movie is focused too much on the original actors and trying to appeal to the "fans" rather than making a good NEW movie.

I like that they've taken a lot of actors from more atypical stuff, it isn't just a bunch if action stars and blockbuster actors. One from Inside Llewyn Davies and one from Frances Ha and ofcourse: Max Von Sydow. This could turn out to be very interesting, they are great actors!

And Mark Hamill is basically doomed, this movie is bound to end with him being killed in a lightsaber duel.

JJ really has a thing against women, doesn't he?

Star Wars has always been a sausage fest...so the charge can't really soley be leveled at JJ...

Ah, good ol' status quo!

Jesus H. Christ, if this happens and it's up to the main protagonist to destroy an evil superweapon in the end...
...I think that might make it the first time I walk out of a theater midway through a movie.
