Tropico 5 Trailer Shows Off Multiplayer

Tropico 5's biggest new feature is multiplayer, and now we've finally gotten a glimpse at it.

For such an interesting new feature to the Tropico franchise, we've seen precious little of Tropico 5's upcoming multiplayer modes. Just shy of three weeks out from it's May 23 launch date, Kalypso has finally given us a glimpse at how we'll be able to build (or destroy) our own island nations with our friends.

Players will be able to chose between co-op or versus games, both between random internet strangers and their friends. Players will also be able to chose the "era" of the game, so if they want to jump right into the industrial era and throw tanks at each other, then so be it.

In the co-op mode, players will be able to share resources, send money, and work together to build the island's infrastructure. Kind of similar to how SimCity (2013)'s multiplayer was supposed to work, but in more real-time and on a local (rather than regional) level.

In versus, the game takes on an almost turn-based strategy feel, as players can build up an army and then use it to attack other cities on the island. It's not known exactly how much control players will have over the attacks, or what they'll be able to do to defend against them, but it certainly had a very Civilizations feel to it.

Multiplayer is probably the feature i'm most excited for in Tropico 5, as the game has become somewhat of a cult hit among my friends, and we can't wait to try and blow each other up in-game.

Holy shit we got working APCs and Tanks now? Sold!

I hated being a dictator with only about 5 guys with pointy sticks being my only backup. That isn't a Fidel Castro simulator, that's a Kim Jon Un simulator. Tropico desperately needed something else other than nukes, and thank god we finally got it.

Now the only question left is whether they will allow me to not be an international joke. Or have some sort of control over what happens. If I don't, Ill just wait for a sale.

Because Tropico can really benefit if you can fuck up the timeline in hilarious ways.

That isn't a Fidel Castro simulator, that's a Kim Jon Un simulator.

I can't stop laughing...

but ya - multiplayer, in my Tropico? It seems far more likely than we think! I can't wait

...and we could share construction workers? Well there's a joke for the ages, or have they finally swapped the valium for cafeine in the construction office break room?

As soon as I saw the tanks I immediately pre-ordered it. I'll probably gonna try to get my friend to do the same. I very much liked the last two Tropico games and hope this one will be as good or better.

I do hope they bring back Juanito or someone similar (and I hope you can kill him when he becomes annoying).

The main thing I take away from this is that they once again picked AWESOME music for the game. This is going to be an AWESOME month for me once this game releases.

They seem to have basically done what they have slowly been experimenting with in DLC and previous games (eras, international politics, multiple islands, refined RTS elements) and it looks to be the best tropico yet.
