This Beautiful NES-Themed 3DS XL is Exclusive to GameStop

If you're wanting to get your hands on this retro NES 3DS XL, you'll have to bite the bullet and shop at GameStop.

At the GameStop Expo 2014, the video game retailer unveiled three new flavors of 3DS XL's that are due to release this year. The first is the Super Smash Bros.-themed 3DS we saw earlier, which will be made available from multiple retailers, but the other two, a Persona-themed purple 3DS, and the very snazzy NES-themed grey 3DS, will be exclusive to GameStop.

You can check out all three new 3DS models below:

The Super Smash Bros. 3DS XL will hit store shelves first on September 19, just ahead of the launch of Super Smash Bros. 3DS on October 3. The retro-inspired NES Edition 3DS XL follows on October 10, featuring an NES controller design on its lid. Finally, the Persona Q Edition 3DS XL will launch alongside Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth on November 25.

All three units are priced at $199.99. Sadly, the Smash Bros. and Persona 3DS XL's don't actually come with a copy of their respective games.

That NES-themed model...

I want it.

I don't care that I already have a perfectly functional 3DS and in the color I want.

I don't care that it's at Gamestop.

I want my hands to hold it, dammit!

That NES is so sexy but there is just one teeny weeny little problem: NINTENDO JUST ANNOUNCED THE NEW NINTENDO 3DS THAT HAS BETTER FUNCTIONALITY THAN THIS! Seriously, what is the point of buying one of those now unless your a diehard collector? If Nintendo hadn't announced the New 3DS already I would have totally traded in my current XL for the NES one.

Ok, these are really cool and all but why would I buy these when the "New" 3DS's are coming out early 2015? I would have killed to have these options when I first picked up my xl though.

goddamn dat persona Q one. With the other commenters though, why the fuck would I buy this with a new model coming out right away?

Aren't they replacing the 3DS XL with the "new" 3DS XL in a few months anyway. Talk about a cash in.

That Persona Q one looks neat. However the NES-themed 3DS just looks cheap on the exterior despite the cool-looking box.

"But it looks like a NES contoller on the outside!"

No, it should look like a NES on the outside, and a controller on the inside. Did they not remember their own NES design for the GBA SP?

I'm only half kidding. =P

They look great but I wouldn't go for one as I'm happy with my Pokemon 3DS XL and there are new poorly named replacements coming down the pipeline anyway. Won't stop them from flying off the shelves anyway I'm sure and I can't begrudge Nintendo that.

I have been hoping they'd bring the Persona Q XL here, but seeing as how the New 3DS is on the horizon this would be a pretty pointless investment. Seriously, Nintendo is really good at cannibalizing its sales.

The beautiful 3DS-XL, which I will of course not be buying because screw being able to control my machine from a distance.

I like the NES one. I like the Persona one more.

They've done this with pretty much every new iteration of the DS line. I think maybe they didn't do it with the original DS>DSLite conversion, but otherwise, it's "hey, come buy our new sexy model in bland colours or CHECK OUT THESE AWSUM NEW SKINS FOR OUR OLD MODELS!"

I like the faceplate idea of the "The New 3DS" models. At least then you don't have to buy a new handheld.

Psssssst.

Here's a sweet one that looks several thousands of times better than the gamestop one.

Fucking Gamestop

But I am satisfied with my X/Y themed version.

Just find an image you like and print it on a sticker paper then stick it to your 3DS. You don't need to be a slave to marketing.

I love all three of them...

...but this fact is turning me off. It is so weird how Nintendo released a dozen different XL systems with different designs.

You better go pay $200 for a sticker... it's not everyday a company tries to sell us something they KNOW is inferior under the guise that it's "New AND Improved" ...o wait, it IS everyday. Oh well, good thing we're programed to deny the existence of our own spine. See you all at GameStop! XD

Bear in mind this new 3DS is not the New 3DS of course.

Because it takes effort. You'd be amazed at how much money people are willing to throw away for and easier time and bragging rights.

As for me, I'm happy with my second hand black 3DS that I bought for £35. All I ever play on it is pokemon anyway. So no need for me to get stressed out.

It's cool but why when you just told everyone your making an "New 3ds" and we'll need that "New 3ds" for certain games.

Anyone other then collectors are wasting their money.

wait, why would they sell game themed 3ds systems without their games? with the new 3ds on the horizon, who will even buy these?
