Artist Illustrates Robin Williams in Time Lapse Tribute

Artist Heather Rooney recently released a new video showcasing her creation of a hand drawn pencil illustration of Robin Williams.

The tragic passing of Robin Williams conjured up a lot of strong emotions in a lot of people, more than a few of whom turned their energies toward paying tribute to the actor and his decades of brilliant work. Some of these of the small sort; things like blog posts and Tweets describing what the man meant to them. Others, like Blizzard's in-game "Robin" NPC, were a tad larger. For artist Heather Rooney however, her method of mourning was clear: she was going to draw a picture.

That might not sound like much on the surface, but then you've probably never seen Rooney draw before. A 21 year-old art student, Rooney has released several time-lapse videos showcasing her as she creates pencil celebrity portraits bordering on photorealistic. Hoping to memorialize Williams, Rooney focused her most recent video on illustrating a gorgeous picture of the departed actor.

"In memory of Robin Williams," she wrote in the video's description. "[He] brought us so many laughs and smiles. He will truly be missed."

In addition to her Willaims portrait she's also drawn the likes of Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake, alongside others. To see other examples of Rooney's work you can visit her YouTube channel or her Facebook page.

I watched her draw that and I'm still not convinced it wasn't a photograph....holy shit she's good. RIP good sir

That was incredible.

With such precision with life-like color, I'd love to see what art she could create of non-real, imaginary subjects. I'll be subscribing to her YouTube channel.

There you are, Peter.

Fake, right? There's no way. She's too good.

Too many feels... :( :(

RIP Sir Williams

No I think photo-realistic is a pretty apt term for this drawing. I'm also gonna subscribe, she's clearly pretty amazing.

What if that actually is a photograph, and she slowly removed the paper that was covering it up during the time lapse? Think about it! Seriously though, that's a very impressive drawing and I feel it does Robin justice. RIP in peace, good sir.

Seeing this makes me want to cry and smile at the same time. it's truly a sight to behold and it moved me deeply. Excellent tribute.

Nothing like watching someone with true talent to make me realize exactly how shit I am by comparison.

Truly amazing work. Such an attention to detail. I'd never be able to do this.

I'm suddenly overcome by a feeling of severe artistic inadequacy. That's incredible stuff.

this has no place on a gaming news website

This isn't a gaming news website. It's an entertainment website.

But let's ignore the fact that this has no place on a gaming news website,

Did you honestly not see the category on top that said "Movie & TV"?

You would be mistaken to confuse "talent" with Skill. Or as I like to call it, "years of drawing every day, forgoing social activity, eating, sleeping, movies and games- all so I could draw something I will immediately hate so that some day I can draw something that I don't hate and others will say it's really damn good." :) Drawing is a skill, and some people have a leg up at the beginning. You can draw like this- given time and the effort. ;)

Holy shit. That's amazing. I wish I could do anything that good.

I think I'll go watch some of his stand up on Youtube if I can find any. Feeling weirdly nostalgic.
