Final Fantasy XV Trailer Reveals First Female Cid Pages 1 2 3 NEXT
Final Fantasy XV Trailer Reveals First Female Cid Modern cities, fast cars, and a woman named Cid are the highlights of the latest FFXV trailer. As even casual fans know, the Final Fantasy series has a long history of characters named Cid. The Cids take many forms, but don't have much in common other than generally being good with mechanical objects--oh yeah, and they're all dudes. Well, until Final Fantasy XV launches, that is--the next core entry in Square Enix's flagship series brings the first female Cid into the fold. You can get your first look at Cid--Cidney, technically--at about 1:50 in this trailer, which made its debut at Japan's annual Jump Festa expo. Like many Cids before her, this one seems to be good with machines--cars, specifically, which the trailer has a lot of. There are plenty of other highlights to be found in the clip as well, like some decidedly un-Final Fantasy-like bustling city streets full of zooming cars, towering giants, and action-heavy combat. As for Cid, it's refreshing to see a new take on a series staple, but I couldn't help but roll my eyes a bit at her needlessly suggestive attire. I don't begrudge any woman who feels comfortable in a bikini top, booty shorts, and thigh-highs, but is that really a practical outfit for a mechanic? Then again, Final Fantasy attire isn't really known for being practical. Final Fantasy XV doesn't yet have a release date, but a demo is due out next year. Source: Kotaku
Really Really hope this game comes to PC. Looks legit. Wonder if the will have banter and stuff while you walk like in the DA games ( Nowadays, I kinda hope games do that more) Also, am I the only one getting a Stardust Crusaders vibe from this game? All they need is a gangster dog.
Words that Square Enix should look up in the dictionary: Restraint Add your own!
I can honestly say I didn't notice the Cid model until the third time I watched the trailer. Forget her attire, that voice is atrocious.
Good thing the game is dual audio.
It probably will come to PC, most of the recent Final Fantasy games have been ported over...though they end up popping up like 2-3 years down the line. So yea...
Insomnia? At last it seem that J-products have switched from stupid German names to stupid English names. Looks slick, though.
As is the usual for the latest FF games, looks to be all show and no substance. The usual character archetypes too. Naive young guy, aggressive young guy, cool headed mentor and... that other dude. Is this now a sandbox? If not, what's the point in showing so much of the car? I'm glad FF is going in a different direction as far as the overall atmosphere of the game goes, but they've shat the bed too many times.
It almost looks like they are going for a "Grand Theft Final Fantasy" vibe from it. I dunno. I'm not yet sold on this one. At least from the initial glimpses it almost looks like Square said "yeah them fans really go for them brooding obnoxious spiky haired testosterone charged nitwits. Let's give them nothing but those dudes to play!" It's like they took the worst characters from FF VIII and just hit copy paste.
Sounded more like Cin (as in Cindy) rather than Cid to me.
Skeptic as always, eh Scully? (that is Scully, right) Yeah, pretty sure that SE mentioned a few times that the game's going to be open world.
Seems fitting to me. Everyone knows that the only women who can possibly be into cars are hicks. [/sarcasm] Also, I know it's kind a cliched gripe, but I really hope that the antagonists all wearing all black is simply because they haven't finalized their designs yet, and that their current garbs will be changed/recolored for the official release. Edit: That said, I love the designs at the start of the trailer, and the way that they kind of have this interesting mix of tech and magic. Say what you will about Square (thanks I think they will; their games have been shite since the PS2 era), they can create some awesome-looking worlds.
Yeah, they are very samey. If the only characters you get to play with are these guys, then that's a huge departure from even more recent FF fare. Used to be you'd have guys, gals, animals and god knows what else!
I am enjoying the art style a little better then the last few installments. Seems like a lot less buckles buckled to buckles to hold up absolutely nothing. I am not liking the English voice acting. They sound so monotone.
Fun /thread Alright, not serious but, I just want to play a next-gen Final Fantasy game. So far having to eat and sleep in hotels isn't exactly what I would call....fantasy.
*Adds "Optimization" and "Performance" to that list* It probably will come out to PC, even if it is sometime down the line instead of DAY 1, the sales from FFXIII and XIII-2 haven't been that bad.
So this FF is the adventures of Wesker, Cloud, Emo boy, and Macho Man as they drive around fighting random crap. With the background narrative being that they are trying to get away from some nebulous empire that seems evil. Also does the female Cid really need the deep south/Louisiana accent?
Nice visuals but that English dub is atrocious. On another note I can't help myself thinking that this "road trip" theme will be utterly stupid.
A variation of it worked as a starting point in Front Mission 3, could always go that route.
... Did they really call it Insomnia? Do they even know what that means? Now I can't help but wonder what sort of sleep problems the people must've had when they decided to name their country.
True. Though they would be nice, I don't mind lack of indepth graphic options. But Consistent 60 FPS. 60FPS man. That is mandatory. Without it, I will never buy the game. Instant dealbreaker for me.
Cid? She looks more like a Welch (Vineyard) to me. I'm more interested in how combat and level-up works rather than FMV cutscenes. Are there job classes?
Tell me about it. I've been dealing with sub 30fps on FFXIII-2 on a GTX970, putting it at 4k or just 1080p makes no difference at all, so there's more than an obvious optimization problem on their end. Here's to Hoping FFXIII LR will be better...
Before it would be "new" character and now we have the "first female" character. Now i dont remember this site advertising the "first male" character in this game. Anyway, was never sure about this game but the more i hear about it the more i want to play it.This could be a great FF game.
Wait, I thout they said 60FPS for FFX13-2? And with a card that powerful... Why did I buy FFX13 during the Humble Christmas sale again...?
as for the open world, honestly did not know that. that's a bit more interesting, but SE are just as likely to fuck it up.
As you yourself said...practical attire is almost much the antithesis of what Final Fantasy design is about. The design specification doesn't include "practical for role". Its almost a rule by now. Vaan who you linked (effectively a street urchin dressed like a stripper), Zell (a martial arts specialist with ridiculously baggy pants which could surely only be a problem), Tifa (a resistance leader dressed in leather hotpants and a tight, short sleeveless shirt) and Fran (a "warrior maiden" dressed like a dominatrix). Not to mention that strange outfit Tidus had with one leg longer than the other on a baggy outfit when his job involves SWIMMING. The list could go on for a while. Personally I find the outfits barely even register with me anymore. I just mentally accept it. Its FF. That's what it does. Either way, quite like the idea of mixing it up with Cid. Doing something different. The trailer itself gave me vibes of Final Fantasy 8 which was my first FF love so...yeah I think I might enjoy this. Although the voice acting...the snippet there I wasn't too impressed with.
To be fair whilst I'm normally on board with "why is it necessary to specify" in this case Cid has always been known as a male character. Not the same character, but always male. So stating its the first female CID specifically is a pretty big deal. Its not just a new character. Its a new character which is one of the things that is kept between games, but they've diverted from the archetype. It'd be like stating the "Snake" character in the next Metal Gear Solid was going to be female. Or something like that the next Lara Croft was going to be male (not the best example but there's not a huge amount of games where they have different characters with the same name; at least MGS had several Snakes).
Well if Squeenix really screws it up again... Let's say...they'll lose sleep on it! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...hahHAHAHAHA...HAHAHAHAHAHA ....Ha...Ha....HA! I can't breath! HA!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Ha,....Ha....Ha... (And later after that fake laugh, Random Argument Man died after there was too much dead things inside him after that joke).
So, she's a redneck wearing a Daisy Duke style outfit? At least, Cid "Sit down and drink your goddamn TEA" Highwind from FF, and Cid "I'm trying to channel every 60s to 70s WWII and Western movie hero" from FFX were really hard to nail any cliches in their characters. Here, shes your typical "midriff-baring southern gal who knows more about cars than any guy within 500 miles" cliche. I'll chalk the accent up to the localization, but even that could have been a request from the creative team. The outfit definitely was. Also something no media mentions about this kind of outfit, wearing that while working on cars means she must spend a lot of time in the shower and a lot LAVA soap to get the inevitable grease and road grime off her skin. Unless, FF cars get fixed and cleaned by casting cure spells on it. No matter how hard hard you try, something nasty will always get on you if you're doing more than airing up the tires.
That voice acting is fucking atrocious. I mean Jesus christ. I'm not even usually the type to get really uppity about voice acting but the emotions are all wrong. It's like they just did the acting without seeing the characters or the cutscenes.
So this is supposed to be in a modern "real world" setting and squeenix still can't get its shit together for some consistency and not add their stupid looking, overdesigned armor concocted by some teenager by slapping "cool looking" shapes together, functionality be damned? It also still has everyone fight with naginatas, swords, spears and axes even though firearms are a thing because "eets final fantasy, they have to do swords" and the main characters are still those brutally unrelatable plastic doll androgynous emo male supermodel non-human constructs that raise the irrational urge in me to punch them into their stupid waxy face every time I see them? Oh look it even has not-cloud!! "Guys!! Guys!! Oh yeah also female cid who is some stripper cosplaying as a mechanic I guess.
They did say 60FPS, as a matter of fact, it still does on the info page of the game on steam. Want to know what else is bullshit? They stated they couldn't fully release all the DLC because of licensing reasons which is acceptable but then of course... http://steamcommunity.com/app/292140/discussions/0/619574421343062255/ People notice that everything is still in the game, just locked away behind code. So yea, here's to hoping yet again, that if FFXV does come out for PC, it won't be like this atrocity.
I actually have no problem with Cid being female. Heck been thinking that for awhile. Though also been thinking why is Cid human all the time, mainly in the settings where there's races besides human(though we did have a Mog Cid at one time). But really? This is what you decide to do? I mean it's a bad cliche in it's own right but to do this to the game's incarnation of Cid? Square-Enix what the heck guys?
I think Sarah is on her "jump to conclusions" mat. I just watched the video and it appears that the (2 seconds!) the character was in the video she said her name was "Sin" or "Cin". Also, for a FF that seems to feature so many male protagonists as a switch up, I'm sort of annoyed that the character designs are still so effeminate. Seriously, the "pretty boy cute" shit is getting annoying. I really miss character designs like Auron and Wakka, you know, where men have actual facial features that look like men instead of teenage girls.
and ... I still don't care about FF15, least in terms of buying it. I'm waiting for reviews before I consider adding it to the 'to get' list of games.
Okay. What the fuck is the point of this Paragraph? What is so inherently special about Cid (if it is indeed Cid given pronounciation didnt sound like it) being a woman, or being dressed in that way? In Final Fantasy 9 Cid was a Frog with an oversized Moustache. And who the fuck would give a toss about how short her shorts are or how open her jacket is? Seriously, can we just stop with this 1920's moral grandstanding about how women dress? Fucking puritan bullshit. Maybe she dresses that way because, i dunno, maybe its hot? Maybe she just likes to? Maybe its not even Cid? Maybe its an Android? The list goes on. EDIT: Accidentally hit Post instead of Preview Anyhow, as for the rest of the trailer, it looks kinda like Final Fantasy 8, but with better graphics. Maybe its just the car-bit which throws me off but it seems like we've been here before.
