LittleBigPlanet, Rock Band Coming to PSP

LittleBigPlanet, Rock Band Coming to PSP

Sony announced a doozy of a line up for the PSP in 2009 today, with LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm, Rock Band and Assassin's Creed all coming to the handheld by year's end.

"With a rapidly growing install base, the PSP platform is riding a wave of momentum that will be paired with a new hardware offering and its best software line up to date, demonstrating significant support from SCEA's publishing partners," Sony said in an announcement from its Destination PlayStation event today.

They're actually not just blowing hot air, either. Hannah Montana and Petz games aside, the line up for the PSP in 2009 is full of some serious top-tier franchises.

As has been heavily hinted at before, there's LittleBigPlanet, which Sony claims will offer "new SackBoy adventures with the same play, create, share experience for gamers on-the-go, in addition to brand new levels and environments specifically created for the platform." The game will be developed "in conjunction with Media Molecule," which makes it sound like another studio will be handling the title with Media Molecule watching on.

Also on the first-party front is a new Motorstorm title called Arctic Edge that'll be set in Alaska and is due for a PS2 release as well.

As for third-party games, we'll be seeing an "exclusive installment" of Assassin's Creed that'll be released with a new PSP bundle, Dissidia Final Fantasy from Square-Enix, and Madden 2010 (naturally). More interesting from EA is Rock Band Unplugged, which will be the franchise's portable debut and will use the PSP's Wi-Fi to run an in-game store for downloadable content. Unplugged will "launch exclusively" on PSP, suggesting that we might see it on the DS in due time.

Rock Band on the go? It could work on the DS maybe, Guitar Hero: On Tour almost did. But the PSP? I'm not too sure about that. Unless it comes packaged with mini-drums that plug into the PSP's USB port, I can't really see it working. Either way, sounds like PSP owners should have a lot to look forward to this year. Man, I knew I shouldn't have traded mine for a burrito.

Wait...What? I'm going to get some use out of my PSP?!

Even more so than Rock Band, I'm interested to see how LittleBigPlanet works. The platforming levels I can see being well done, but the "create, share" part of the "play, create, share" mantra?

I'll be following this game's progress with great interest. It may have officially become my most-watched game for this year.

Umm...ROCK BAND?!

I saw "Rock Band for PSP" as an april fools joke once, but this is pretty early for somehting like that.

So alot of good games that we already own but on PSP? Then why no Metal Gear?

I liked MotorStorm a lot, and I can see myself getting excited for Arctic Edge. I'm also curious about Rock Band.

I think it's time I blow the dust off the ol' girl and get reacquainted.

Not sure how logistically Rock Band could even START to work on a psp...karaoke MAYBE, but thats about it.

Curiously, thats going to apple. The clue meter is reading zero.

Isn't it about time they put Singstar on the PsP?

No. Bad Pony!

On the serious side, this is great news! I just bought my PSP at the end of last year, good time to be coming into the market.

This is good, I haven't played my brother's PSP since R-Type Command and Powerstone.

Oh come on, you know you want it. To be able to belt out Bohemian Rhapsody with accompaniment on a roadtrip. It'd be like that scene in Waynes World, but with someone actually helping you not suck.

I want to see how LBP will work for the PSP... Well I can already see how it works but... I want to see it in action.

I would love to see how they will make Rock Band work. It'll be like GH: On Tour, but without the horribleness.

Thats pretty much the tagline to any Rock Band Game - "Like Guitar Hero, but without the horribleness"

Maybe the PSP will snap into a mini guitar via usb port. That would work, maybe.

They could just copy guitar star which is a port of frets on fire to the psp.

I like the ukelele idea better.

So a ukuele that will tuck the psp inside and connect via usb and of course you can use the video output so that you are not squinting.

Little Big Planet I could see working on the PSP and would probably sell quite well. Be good to see how that turns out.

As for rock band, Not so optimistic on these sorts of games on handheld consoles. Not sure how it would work.

I like how no-one cares about Motorstorm. Sums up the series really.

I meant better ones. Or you could take what I said as sarcastic. Take your pic.

I'll take the second considering an editor's choice (9.0) is pretty good and 8s aren't too shabby either.

i only own a 360, but this is epic news to psp owners!

I wonder if Ubi is doing this because the PSP has nearly sold as much as the 360 and ps3 combined.

How do you port Rock Band to a handheld?

I mean considering you'd need to take instruments with you...

It boggles the mind.

LBP for the PSP sounds pretty plausable though.

I... I just sold my PSP...

Oh god, what have I done!

Wait, that line up sucks. Back to being a PC gaming elite.

I'm looking forward to see how they handle assassins creed as I really don't care about LBP. If there is a demo for motor storm it will make it to my consider list. I still wish they would release some news regarding the rumored Devil may Cry game, I mean if they can do god of war DMC shouldn't be a problem. So my PSP is going to scream out in joy with all the new games it's going to get while my wallet screams out in agony...oh it's so good to own a PSP.
