PC Gamers Won't Be Getting Mortal Kombat XL or Kombat Pack 2

Mortal Kombat XL, which hits consoles in March, will not be available on PC.

Earlier today, Warner Bros. announced the upcoming Mortal Kombat XL, which will bundle Mortal Kombat X with Kombat Packs 1 and 2. However, a release date of March 1 was only provided for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, leaving many PC gamers wondering when their version would be available. Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be in the cards.

In a post on the Test Your Might forums today, NetherRealm community specialist Tyler Lansdown confirmed that both Mortal Kombat XL and the upcoming Kombat Pack 2 will be exclusive to consoles.

"Mortal Kombat XL and Kombat Pack 2 will available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One only," Lansdown wrote. This was further confirmed on Twitter by the official NetherRealm account.

Mortal Kombat X's second Kombat Pack will include new fighters Xenomorph from Alien, Leatherface, Bo' Rai Cho, and Triborg. It will also include Goro as a playable combatant, the Apocalypse Pack (three new character skins, reimagining characters Takeda, D'Vorah and Erron Black with an apocalyptic theme), the Brazil Pack (three new character skins: Futbol Cage, Capoeira Liu Kang and Gaucho Kung Lao), the Kold War Pack (three new character skins: Motherland Sonya, Tundra Sub-Zero and Revolution Kano), and the Kold War Scorpion character skin.

I'm guessing this is WB's response to the Batman Arkham Knight fiasco, simply withdraw from PC entirely and deny the last of the DLC for Mortal Kombat as one final 'fuck you' to the audience they see as overly entitled whiners that cost WB a lot of money by not letting the abysmal port of Arkham Knight slide. All I can say is don't let the door hit you on the way out WB, may you go the way of THQ.

Truthfully, after the Arkham Knight issues, I have an odd feeling a lot of people won't be picking up WB games when they may have previously.

...While I would rather they not work on the PC than have Arkham Knight-level problems, to basically pull support from some systems and not others is really sketchy. Which is disappointing, because MKX is actually a damn good fighter.

Well, we did make them feel bad for releasing a crappy game.

At least Capcom put actual effort in to Street Fighter for the PC.

I don't think it's so much a 'fuck you' as an admission by implication that they aren't capable of developing PC games properly.

The change from no refunds to anybody who wants one being immediately able to get one must have scared the living piss out of them. Whilst it is something of an indictment of Valve's utter market dominance that they can tell publishers that yes they are giving all the money back it's a surprisingly positive one. Even if EA did get there first.

In the grand scheme I would rather no WB PC releases at all than what they've done the last few years. It's not like there is nothing else to play.

was kind of looking forward to play as alien but looks like i can forget that now. not surprised either after batman. also, MKX wasnt working properly either when it was released. two 15gb patches and people still had issues like my self. until i made a serious upgrade of my rig and now the game runs like a charm. but still havent forgotten this stupid practice they have pulled off. i certainly have second thoughts of getting a WB game in the future.

I'd feel this sting less if the PS4 version of the game didn't have its online region-locked so I can't play with all my friends in Europe. Whereas the Xbone version isn't locked but none of my friends have an Xbone.

Meh. Who really plays tournament fighters on PC anyway? Those games have always been highly console centric with their control schemes and move sets. Nothing lost really IMO.

I couldn't imagine not playing it on PC. It's not like it's mandatory to use KB&M for every game, hell I don't even use KB&M for Counter-Strike (gasp!) and Titanfall. Mortal Kombat on PC supports Hori fight sticks and random fight sticks that I had for the Playstation 2. I was even able to play it with the stellar Sega Saturn controller for the hell of it. Just stating facts, the PS4 version does not allow even close to the level of freedom regarding input devices, among other things.

I'd say something about "PC Master Race " etc etc but I spent 2k on my current rig so I'm not one to speak. Point is, when cash game tournaments are played, what games are most often seen on what systems? It has nothing to do with what you personally prefer, just where the game is most ubiquitous. The game being late or nonexistent for PC doesn't bother me because I never planned on getting it for PC. I actually planned on buying the CE when it was on sale this last Christmas, when it was under $100 with the Scorpion alternate statue and kombat pack. But I was buying gifts for everyone else so I missed the sale. Now I might finally buy this game, all current DLC included, at a lower pricepoint. So game on!

This article does not tell 1/3 of this story. I am one of the few MK X PC players that bought it day 1 and still remain. We have endured an endless string of fuckups and failures, starting even before the game came out. The moment we learned that High Voltage Software was doing the port, those of us in the Nether Realm Studios PC community knew there would be problems. They've had a proven track record of porting games poorly, including the still buggy versions of Injustice: Gods Among Us and MK9.

We were simply not prepared for the magnitude of what would be coming.

This game did not function on release. It was practice mode, if you were lucky. I could not so much as turn on Story Mode for a week. I should also point out that this is before Steam Refunds were a thing. Despite literally thousands of people clamoring for their money back, there was simply no recourse. I feel that is the sole reason that MKX was not given the same treatment as Arkham Knight and pulled from the shelves.

Things gradually start to get somewhat better over the next couple months. The game became feature complete, if nothing else. There were crashing problems, the online was horrible (though that at least was not PC exclusive), and the already small community dwindled. Then HVS released a 15 gig patch that deleted everyone's save files, because they're super competent like that. Then they released another 15 gig patch to revert that back to normal. Sure hope you didn't have a data limit.

Not too long after this, rumors started going around that HVS was fired and replaced with Q-loc, an actually good studio, due to some things found in the steam database that promptly disappeared, along with all mentions of HVS. I'm inclined to believe this is true, despite no official word, because of the rapid turn around. Suddenly, everything's getting fixed. The memory leaks are gone, online becomes much more stable, we get an actual FPS bench mark so we can know if someone's computer can actually run the game. You could even argue that PC is now objectively the best platform due to improved graphics, controller diversity, and the online is equal, if not better. Everything is looking up for PC...but it's all too late. You're lucky to see 60 people in the rooms at peak hours. The winter sale has boosted that number a bit, but even then, it's only about 100 people on at once. The community is on life support.

Then we started noticing there was no Steam logo on any of the new trailers for Kombat Pack 2 or the ground up reworking of MK X's abysmal netcode by making the switch to a rollback based system. We tweet Ed Boon, Tyler Lansdown, Paulo, anybody who could possibly say something on the issue. After a week of silence, we finally get our answer today.

There's not even any spin on it, either. Just stating facts, ps4 and xb1 only. No apologies, no reasons or excuses. WB strangled the PC community in its crib with their poor choices and bad business practices, and now they're tossing us aside.

You see, this is more than just DLC we're talking about. Without that DLC, it more than likely means PC will not be getting the future balance patches that the consoles will receive. This means that if you're a competitive player, there is no point in continuing. We're outdated. It's also quite likely we'll never see that new rollback netcode, what with there being no beta for it on PC.

This decision effects the entire base game. No one informed me upon buying the only new game I've purchased in the last 5 years that it would inherently be an inferior product. NRS games have been my primary past-time for the last year, and now...they're tainted. I can't enjoy them the same way anymore because this honestly feels like I've been betrayed for my loyalty. WB killed this game, and now we aren't worth their time.

Tsk. Leaving money on the table, guys.

I don't personally care- the previous game was enough to convince me MK was no longer my cup of tea- but I still think it's a bad decision.

After AK, I wouldn't buy their game at all, so it doesn't bother me =)

That's a stupid fucking reason to not have it on PC. Just because you wouldn't have gotten it on PC doesn't mean others wouldn't have

The more relevant point is - who the hell cares about cash tournaments? The people playing in, or watching, those is a tiny fraction of a percent of the people just playing games at home for fun. And as DrunkOnEstus pointed out, people playing on PCs have a far wider choice of controllers than those playing on console, including being able to use exactly the same controllers if they so choose. Of all the possible reasons fighting games might be seen as more console-oriented, the existence of controllers is not one of them.

My god all these people complaining. Didn't see anyone complaining when they did this with the Wii U versions of Injustice and Arkham Knight. Everyone simply said, eh who cares, you should have bought a different system. So basically what I'm saying is eh, if you didn't want to have problems with your PC version, you should have just bought it on consoles like jack ton of other people did.

The reason that WB doesn't care about the PC versions is, they've already proven they can make an awesome game on the consoles and people have seen that and bought it making MKX one of the best selling games of 2015. Another reason being the fuck up of Arkham knight. Seriously you know that if even one minuscule thing was out of place, people would jump all over them with out waiting for a patch or anything. So in my opinion, this decision is purely a business one. Why continue to try an appease a small amount of players when they've already proven they can't be? Might as well just focus on the Substantially larger group that hasn't had any problems at all.

Careful. You might upset the Master Race. Mein Comp. Or to put it in someone else's words, http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/comicsandcosplay/comics/critical-miss/15255-Erin-On-The-PC-Master-Race

Way to cherrypick. You must work in politics to miss the argument so completely.

If they release a game for a system, especially if it's a launch release, they had better damn well make it work and expect to support it. Otherwise don't release it for that system.

MKX was the worst purchase I've made in a long time. Horrific launch issues aside, the performance in multiplayer was always pure and utter shit which caused everyone to quit. Instead of fixing the damn thing first they kept pushing their ridiculously expensive DLC out the door first.

If you expect a community to build up and buy your DLC, you better have your shit working first.

Well this is disappointing. I expect them to get around to releasing eventually though. Why the industry hates the PC market so much is beyond me.

So.. I guess we should stop buying WB games. They suck so bad these days. Terrible ports, denied content after committing to the platform. I'm done.

i think you are not the only one here. especially after batman they really dropped the bomb. we pc guys dont exist anymore to them. we cost them too much money to make a good port apparently.
i think i make a bow around them as well.

Huh, well, screw that, then. I, for one, was excited for the KP2, but I guess that I dont have a choice in the matter. Well, fuck WB, then.

It seems like suck a kneejerk reaction, though. Kinda like they were surprised by thr fact that people tend not to respond well to broken shit. Give us a good game, and we will play it. Dont expect us to stick around if you dont.
