The Witcher 2 Headlines New Xbox One Backward Compatible List

Witcher 2 Backward Compatibility

The game is also free to download for a limited time.

From now through through February 5 at 12 am UTC, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will be available for free for Xbox One owners in the U.S., Canada, UK, France, and Germany, CD Projekt Red announced today. The announcement coincides with Microsoft's reveal of the latest batch of Xbox 360 games now available via backward compatibility - a list headlined by The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The full list can be viewed below:

  • The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
  • Sam & Max Save the World
  • Aegis Wing
  • Counter-Strike: GO
  • Age of Booty
  • Space Giraffe
  • Soulcalibur
  • Skullgirls
  • Jeremy McGrath's Offroad
  • Small Arms

Microsoft also stated that, moving forward, new backward compatible games will be released as they are ready, rather than on a set monthly schedule. There will also be a dedicated Xbox One Backward Compatibility page on the Wire, where Microsoft will be sharing recently released titles, along with "spotlight stories" on popular recently added games. You can continue to vote for games you want to see available through the program here.

Why would anyone want a vastly inferior version of this great game?

That's a little misleading, I'm in the UK and apparently the offer isn't valid for my region

Quite! Why would someone drive a car when they could fly the plane they don't own? Wait, that doesn't make any sense at all... 'Best' version doesn't somehow magically/automatically determine what system someone games on (I doubt my laptop could run TW2, and I'm not sure how good its controller support would be).

I've gone from 360 to XB1, and given I've not played TW3 yet, this is perfectly timed for a replay. Er, well, when the GotY comes out and I've stopped playing other games...

I have my doubts a BC version wouldn't come with its own issues, though, so being playable is irrelevant if it's not stable.

I think it might just be the store that is regionally bugged. The link sent me to the american store, where I couldn't claim the offer as it wasn't available in my region (Norway). However, changing to the Norwegian store and searching for the Witcher 2 allowed me to claim it for free.
If you're in the UK, try going to this store link instead: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/Product/The-Witcher-2/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024e4d0855

It's the Xbox Arcade port of the first SoulCalibur game.
