Since the Halo franchise launched in 2001, there have been games, books and live-action films and toys. A deal with Mattel is going to expand the action figure line even further.

The Halo franchise has generated more than $5 billion in revenue since Halo: Combat Evolved launched in 2001. That includes not only the games, but books, consumer products and toys. A new deal between 343 Industries and Mattel allows the toy giant to offer fully licensed Halo products, including Mega Bloks and action figures.

"The success we've seen with the Halo MEGA Bloks franchise over the years laid the foundation for this partnership," said Bonnie Ross, Microsoft Corporate Vice President and Head of 343 Industries. "We're excited to work with Mattel to bring innovative, quality and, most of all, fun products to old and new Halo fans alike."

As part of the deal, two BoomCo. weapons - the Assault Rifle Blaster and Magnum Blaster - have already been added to the latest content update for Halo 5: Guardians.

"We're excited to expand our relationship with Halo and 343 Industries to create and collaborate on a broad range of multi-category toys and collectibles," said Joe Lawandus, SVP of Design and Marketing, Toy Box at Mattel. "From MEGA Bloks to blasters, action figures to radio controlled vehicles, our new line for 2016 features something for Halo fans everywhere."

Among the products to be shown off at the New York Toy Fair this weekend (along with the suggested retail price):

  • Halo Mega BloksDual Mode UNSC Warthog ($29.99)

Hmm. I wonder if we've gotten to the point where there won't be a kerfuffle about T-M rated games by way of associated products being pitched to the 8-12 year old market.

The warthog will break apart at the smallest bump!

Halo's already had action figures on sale for a decade, there might be a kerfuffle, from a few idiots with no self awareness.

The MA5 might be appearing in the hands of cosplayers globally in short order, assuming it's the right size. $50 would imply it's not going to be tiny.

Well, sure; there are any number of "adult" games, movies, comics and series that have their own figures, though they're often posed more as being "collectables" or "sculptures" than "action figures" or "toys".

But this is Mattel, makers of Barbie and holders of the Fisher-Price brand. If someone decides to lose it, this will probably be the time.

Oh man, there goes that secure feeling I had in my wallet. I collect the mega bloks and I'm digging all of those; especially that ODST troop builder pack: going to have to get like four of those. Those giant robots are definitely a must get, as well.

While I'm excited to see some other products, I just hope that it doesn't break their focus on the things they are putting out: mega bloks are still recovering from a legacy of abysmal quality control. Also, I'm still kind of pissed that they haven't been making any Red vs Blue themed stuff. Roosterteeth is the only reason I like halo, dammit.
