Happy Pi Day! Here are 5 Ways to Celebrate

Pie Pi

Today, March 14th, is Pi Day. People all across the country - and the globe - are celebrating pi, the transcendental number that is, of course, approximately 3.14.

The holiday was created back in the late 80s but became recognized by the US Congress as an official holiday on March 14, 2009. Though maybe not as popular as many other commercial holidays, it doesn't mean you can't have fun with it. How do you celebrate Pi Day?

Eat Pie
Obviously. Pi Day is traditionally celebrated by eating a pie. So head to the kitchen (or, better yet, your nearest pie shop) and have at it! Many bakeries and restaurants even have deals on pie on Pi Day.

Recite the digits of Pi
How far can you go when it comes to pi? Since pi never ends or repeats, it's fun to see how far you can memorize and recite the digits. Compete with your coworkers around the water cooler or your friends at the pub. It's sure to impress. 3.14159265359 and on and on and on.

Throw a party
March 14 isn't just Pi Day, it's also Albert Einstein's birthday (he would have turned 137 today, in case you were wondering) so it's a great day to throw a party. Wear Einstein costumes. Watch mathematical movies. And of course, eat the pie.

Brush up on your math
So, you don't have any geek friends to celebrate Pi Day with? That's okay. Head to the library and grab geometry and other math books to brush up on your skills. Yeah, that sounds really lame. Better yet, just eat some pie.

America is the only country I know that puts the month first. I don't know why they do it that way.

Because Pi is both irrational and transcendental, I intend to celebrate Pi day by claiming the the escapist staff are miniature space dragons in disguise and meditating in an attempt to achieve nirvana, or least mutter Kurt Cobain lyrics mystically.

Yeah i was also confused because to day is 14.3.16 which has little to do with PI however i understand that PI is confusing for some people and people want to spread their confusion around

We in the Philippines do. Colonial mentality and such I guess.

Silly Escapist, 14.3 is not pi

Look at all these filthy Pi-heretics. The Tau master race will deal with your kind, just you wait.

Considering it says five ways to celebrate and there are only four things listed I find this amusement... get to the library, LJ! You failed!

Silly Escapist, 14.3 is not pi

But then the question becomes: When would you celebrate pi day? the third day of the fourteenth month?

Never due it not existing for the normal world.

Sorry to bring the tone down, but the 14th of March is actually Steak-and-BJ Day.

It's written the way it's said.
3/14 (March fourteenth).
Now learn to drive on the correct side of the road.
...And stop adding unnecessary letters to words. It's spelled "Color"!

To celebrate, I am making tourtiere for dinner tonight. There will also be pie and ice cream for dessert. Yum!

Chessrook44:
there are only four things

Thank go-...Pi that somebody else noticed. I was reading the comments and nobody else brought it up.

Yeah, where is the fifth thing?

while there is this, I had some teachers in high school prefer it this way for filing purposes

1-12/1-31/1-infinite (smallest amount of numbers to largest amount of numbers)

If I had a personal preference I would use year/month/day for a data/filing system, although in most conversations year would be redundant.

Since it is 2016-03-14 it is indeed Pie Day.

To be more exact, it's 2016-03-14 19:59:17 ,)

"14th of March"
14/3

Checkmate?

That does not make any sense! The month is WAY more important than the day! :P

OT: I don't like pie, I thought about Chris Hardwick, and no one I know actually knows any of the pi numbers after the first 9 besides the first 2...

Other than that, I'll stick with the math I use to keep track of RPG-based stats, thank you very much...
