Mojang has Now Sold Over 100 Million Copies of Minecraft
Mojang has Now Sold Over 100 Million Copies of Minecraft ![]() Minecraft has cracked the 100 million mark in sales. Just in case you though the Minecraft phenomenon was starting to come to an end, let us disabuse you of that notion. Mojang's open-world game continues to be one of the best-selling games of all time, and has now passed the 100 million copies sold mark. Mojang is celebrating with a new infographic that shows off the game's amazing success. A few random facts from that infographic:
The only game that has outsold Minecraft is Tetris, and since that game has roughly 500,000,000 copies sold, its title is probably secure. You can check out the Minecraft infographic below.
I wonder if the studio purchase is profitable already for MS. It could actually be.
Wow, filthy mobile casuals and us console peasants have the master race beat hands down. :P
People actually bought the mobile version!? So many even?? I thought it had tanked and they only support it out of generosity. Honestly. I thought Mojang does this.
Hmm. I don't think so. Not with how much they paid for it. I don't know how much of that 100 million is post-purchase, but I do know that they don't charge all that much for it, and Mojang has expenses as well. Still, if it keeps growing, it could, which is a bit surprising.
Well, my understanding is that Microsoft paid $2.5 billion for Mojang. Even if every recorded sale was after that purchase (surely not), and assuming a price of $15 per sale (and the mobile version, at least, tends to be significantly less), that's: versus that sale of: $2,500,000,000. So while those statistics are unquestionably impressive, it sounds like Microsoft still has a ways to go. (Notably, this doesn't include other Minecraft merchandise, any royalties from the TellTale game, etc. etc. etc.)
It would seem south america is officially the smartest continent on earth because that is the only place where the mobile version isn't the most bought
I'm amazed "Tetris" has sold so immensely. That crown won't be removed for a very long time, if ever. But good for Mojang. I'm probably too creatively inept to get "Minecraft" as I've never really enjoyed it much, but props to them.
Thing is I'm willing to bet that most copies of the mobile version have been bought by owners of the PC and console versions who want to work on their creations on the move too.
And somehow I have never played this game
Pretty sure you're missing a couple of zeroes there
<.< >.> *adds zeroes* YOU SAW NOTHING!
