The Next Zelda Game After Breath of the Wild Could be a Multiplayer

Aonuma wants to take what he learned from Breath of the Wild and use it to create another multiplayer Zelda

Speaking with IGN, producer Eiji Aonuma said that, after The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild releases, the franchise could be going back to multiplayer in the next installment.

"I would like to take what I learned from Breath of the Wild and see if we can somehow fuse those learning points into another multiplayer Zelda," Aonuma said. "For example, with Triforce Heroes, which followed a similar format of Four Swords, there was a multiplayer involved in that game."

"That's definitely a possibility and we will continue to [experiment] throughout the Zelda franchise," he added.

Breath of the Wild will focus exclusively on a single player experience. Aonuma also recently confirmed that the game will feature voice acting, although Link will remain silent throughout the game in order to preserve the relationship between the character and player.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is set to be the largest game in Zelda's 20 year run, with Nintendo getting some assistance from Monolith Soft with the development process. You can check out my hands-on impressions of Breath of the Wild from E3 2016 here.

Yeah, Four Swords Multiplayer, because that was remembered fondly!

Experiment as you please, but... yeah, no, not shoving multiplayer where it doesn't need to be.

Four Swords multiplayer was actually really fun when you had friends to play with.

Issue is that it's pretty much impossible now because of the requirements. The game itself is relatively rare, the cables are hard to get hold of, and you need gameboy advances.

I didn't care for Four Swords, but its sequel Four Swords Adventures was really good. The more recent Triforce Heroes has been well received also.

I think the trick is just that Nintendo has to do it themselves, not Capcom.

P.S. Thanks

If by Multiplayer, it means that there will be bloodstains of other players and messages left by other players on the floor as glowing orange text, then sure. =)

The game was ported to the 3DS and given away for free around the time "A Link Between Worlds" was released. You can play mutliplayer via wireless but you'll need four copies, four 3DSs and three friends sitting in the same room as you. There's no online co-op.

Pretty sure it's no longer for sale. I was living in the UK at the time anyway, so neither me nor any of my friends were able to download it. I remember trying...

"It was later made available again as a free download between January 30 and February 2, 2014 in North America"

Nintendo just really like making Four Swords impossible to play.

EDIT: Okay, it seems it's just the free version which was limited. My bad.

EDITEDIT: Nevermind once again. Can't see it on Nintendo's UK website.

I wrote a haiku for this occasion.

No no no no no
No no no no no no no
No no no no no

After tri force heroes I'll pass.

You do realize that Triforce Heroes was essentially a low budget spinoff title while they worked on Breath of the Wild, right?
