More Bioshock 2 Details Revealed

image

Rumors have been flying around the internet regarding the plot of Bioshock 2, but the latest issue of Game Informer puts them all to rest.

The latest issue of the magazine, which has now reached the hands of subscribers, has some concrete details. First and foremost, rumors that the game would not feature the iconic Big Daddies have been completely debunked.

Instead, you play as the very first Big Daddy, using your drill to fight off others of your kind looking for Little Sisters to replace those liberated, or killed, by the first game's protagonist. Should you choose to show mercy, your new friend will help you out by pointing out dangers and giving you ADAM.

The Big Sister is in too, a quicker, more nimble version of the hulking Big Daddies, and just one of the adversaries that you'll face. As for the rest? My money's on more deranged Splicers, maybe sent even further over the edge after having to quit ADAM cold turkey.

More details will become available when the magazine becomes more widely available, but this definitely sounds like the 'sequel' part of the game, which is allegedly both sequel and prequel. The part set before the original remains, so far at least, shrouded in mystery.

The biggest question, of course, is whether or not it's actually going to be any good. The gameplay of Bioshock drew criticism from some circles for being too easy, and it was the story and unique setting that drew people in. Can Bioshock 2 repeat the magic with new developers and a mute protagonist that inspires terror on all those who see him?

Of course, it's the April edition of the magazine, so it could all be an elaborate joke.

Wasn't this all cleared up in the last thread?

Anyway worryingly at the moment Bioshock 2 seems like a Big Daddy sim with escort missions a plenty I hope not or I'll Shit Dick Nipples.....

The thing that made Bioshock great was the story and such, it's like 2k thought that Big Daddies were the thing everyone fell in love with the most and churned up this game idea

Most of the 2k forum is up in arms atm, a lot of people want the game with Russians and Dogs to be reality instead of this now.

2K are on a slippery slope here: This could work absurdly well or go horribly wrong. I for one cannot see how they're going to make the ability to play a Big Daddy simply a brawling game, and throw away all the creative killing that you could perform using Plasmids in the last game.

Well on the plus side the Big Sisters look great.

Time will tell I suppose.

This whole plot doesn't seem very appealing to me so far, and I was such a massive fan of the first one...

I hope that you only play as the Big Daddy for a while. Plasmids made Bioshock, so they should return in some form (although the idea of being a Bouncer Daddy with Incinerate! is rather appealing)

I predict that since your the first big daddy you'll be some sort of prototype and will still be able to use plasmids and multiple weapons.

why???

the big daddies were awesome!!!

I'm still hoping for hoax at this point.

That's not to say there isn't a certain appeal to playing as a Big Daddy (with a drill this time!) but I don't think it would be very interesting for very long.

Whateva. Nuffin' I can do aboot it, so I'll just sit here patiently and wait for my 360 to get fixed. Then I'll play some Bioshock 1! Hoo rah! Brass Balls, here I come!

Now that big sister, that's a boss I want to fight.

It is greatly worrying, from what I have read you go around and protect the Little Sisters and after you save a number of them. You are ambushed by the Big Sister....

The Last part of Bioshock allowed you to Play as a Big Daddy and it was meh at best..atleast the Soviets idea seemed more Plot worthy.

I'm kind of confused about how you play as the first big daddy, I thought it was set after the first game.

I hope this is joke it doesn't sound too appealing to me (I prefer the other info that was debunked).

Since I have a game informer subscription I can tell you yes there are screen shots of you as a Big Daddy, and yes you are still able to use tonics and plasmids, and why are people confused with playing as the first big daddy, has it occurred to no one that maybe he survived throughout the entireity of events that have happened to rapture.

I can post some of the screenshots if anyone is interested.

Please do :) If it's allowed

Go ahead :)

it makes sense but im gonna hope its April fools

that or they some how pull this off without making it one huge escort mission

I'm conflicted about this. On the one hand I loved Bioshock, on the other I have an overwhelming, underlying, feeling that they're going to somehow cock it all up...

Please let this be a very, very elaborate and expensive joke...

is the whole game spent as a big daddy then? because i can see it being fun for a while, but the novelty would wear a bit thin for me if it was the whole game.

Thanks for clearing that up for me it seems kind of obvious now you mention it.

Same here but why would Game Informer dedicate a whole cover story to Bioshock 2, all for it to be a joke?

Seems as you say Expensive and risks annoying a lot of Game Informer readers (Seeing as it's their "Big" Issue story)

some screen shots from the magazine.

So, what? Now you start as a Rosie? Gah. Bouncers are so much cooler.

that's just the placeholder design, it might also be the final product, but they may make a more unique suit for your character considering you were the first prototype, and they were still creating Big Daddies through trial and error to find the best design, of course this is all speculation though on my part.

Different developer? What did I miss?

Could be awesome, but then giving a franchise to someone else very rarely improves things.

Hopefully they can give the choice system some depth, and not just make it simple problem solving.

I suppose that solves the vision issue. It'd be kind of hard to see as a Bouncer, but the Rosie has that big ol' window to look through.

I'd probably get motion sickness if I had to play the whole game through the helmet of a Bouncer.

Most of the original development team from Bioshock 1 is working on this one as well, so they'll probably be able to keep it as close to the original as is possible.

nah, can't work, because it looks like you can use guns, drill and plasmids, so you will be the best big daddy

those pictures make it look better though

From the way they put it in the article this is how it breaks down to when facing enemies, one or two splicers is a cake walk, larger groups of them can prove more challenging, when facing off with other big daddies the playing field is more even, you are pretty much fighting yourself so they have the same strengths and weaknesses as you do, you also have to take into account the Big Sister, she is much better compared to you in the areas of speed, agility, strength, and since she is basically a little sister she can feed ADAM straight into her bloodstream giving her an advantage with plasmids as well, just because you'll be a Big Daddy doesn't mean your invulnerable.

I wish we could have some story details....If it's about tactics and being a Big Daddy saving Little sisters it's going to be godawful....I understand the charming Andrew Ryan is Dead but surely they can still plaster out a brilliant story?

Instead, you play as the very first Big Daddy, using your drill to fight off others of your kind looking for Little Sisters to replace those liberated, or killed, by the first game's protagonist. Should you choose to show mercy, your new friend will help you out by pointing out dangers and giving you ADAM

I let out an audible groan reading that

I hope this isn't a hoax, the big sister looks cool...

I just find the image of a big daddy trundling along followed by a line of little sisters while you drill in splicers faces to seem immensely fun. Also consider how strong a big daddy is consider what there going to make you fight.Who knows what happened to rapture in 7-10 years. Super splicers perhaps

At least there trying something new and inventive rather than making the same game over again.
