Is EA at this point at its absolute lowest?

Seriously this year alone for me was the most nothing year ever.

Anthem was a fart in the wind. And the new Star Wars game isn't really hyping me up. And this year's E3 is probably the worse they ever had because it was boring.

And I don't know if they will ever have another opportunity to buy out an upcoming game developer given what they have just done to Bioware.

At this point I don't know what's gonna happen with EA in the next couple of years if this is all they have to show at the moment. Just more Sports games and I don't know how long can Battlefield can continue to live on for 10 more years of yearly games.

Honestly I feel its unfair to lump other AAA developers with EA because at least Ubisoft has games under its belt that might be worth a damn in the future like Beyond Good and Evil 2.

I mean they'll be fine so long as Fifa keeps making them Billions. I don't think they really care about making anything else. Oh sure they might fart out a few games here and there, but their iron hearts wont be behind it. They go through the motions trying to bring people back and it doesn't work so they just shrug and try again with some other bullshit.

Need For Speed is going back to it's roots for the 100th time this year, maybe that'll be something. Though probably just another microtransaction fueled (hehe) piece of trash.

I doubt the Star Wars game will uphold any kind of industry standard. It'll either be mediocre (it feels like they are pushing it out rather fast concidering their last attempt was scrapped), or it'll be okay but filled with live service chungus.

Not that any of it will matter so long as stupid people keep feeding their Fifa ultimate team addictions.

It's certainly at its lowest point to date. I'm sure they can and will go lower as time progresses

They put the guy who made Ultimate Team for FIFA back in the day in charge of the new Need for Speed, so it's totally gonna be an MTX-fueled (ha) piece of trash.

Lolno they just keep getting lower:3

This. Don't think for a second EA has learned anything. They're still raking in hundreds of millions in loot boxes from FIFA. Every other IP is basically just testing grounds for new microtransaction ideas.

I haven't had any interest in anything EA has put out since Dragon Age 2, so I'm not really seeing much difference this year. They can always buy more developers though, not really sure why you think they won't. There must be some sort of tax write off involved with buying and tanking development studios.

I don't think they are any lower than ME3 ending levels. They were absolutely hated at that point. Now... Nobody cares that much when something goes wrong

Nah, not their lowest.

That would be around March 2019, when EA announced their financial results for Q1 of FY2019 and the disappointing performance of Battlefield V, while at the same time, Anthem was making no waves at all. This resulted in the worst drop in EA stock value since 2008, a 22% decrease in revenue compared to the same quarters in 2018, and 350 employees getting fired. On the other hand, they're still making over $1B in net income so far this year, or about a 20% operating margin, and their stock value has been slowly but steadily recovering. They're not in the best shape ever, but signs point to EA being on the up again.

I know this thread is actually about the games they're producing, and on that point I agree. They've done nothing I care about in the last 5+ years or so.

They've had some high profile flops, and obviously gotten the poster-boy status for the gambling stuff (although TakeTwo/2k far outstrips them on that at this point)

The endless money wheel thats been their bread and butter since 1990 or so in their sports licences continues on spinning though. Apex has still been going strong essentially this year for them as well. And their indie-label hasn't done terribly either.

EA is dead to me at this point.

Mass effect 3, the whole lousy ending, with the immediate prompt to buy more dlc. Sure they eventually tried to fix the ending, but I had already uninstalled the game in disgust by that point.

Mass effect Andromeda - Terrible plot, terrible dialog. Instead of trying to fix things with patches they just shelved the entire game.

Dragon age inquisition - MMO style game without the fun of other players. Seriously the hinterlands (I think that's the name) reminded me of grinding in an mmo. Minus all the fun parts of a mmo. It's the first AAA game I just stopped playing halfway through it.

I wonder, if the ending had been excellent, would the DLC message had been taken with a grain of salt?

They absolutely do care about making EVERYTHING else. And they think the way to do it is to make everything more like FIFA. EA is ran by morons. Typical greedy, possibly psychopathic businessmen, who know next to nothing about video games and couldn't possibly care any less about them or their customers. And this is not an exaggeration. If anything, it's probably an understatement.

How on Earth are people still not aware of this? And when I say aware, I mean it should be the first thing that pops into your head the moment you see or hear the word EA anywhere regardless of context.

At this point, I have nearly forgotten that EA is still a company. I don't buy sports games and skipped Mass Effect Andromeda and whatever it was called with the jetpacks so it has been years since I have actually seen their logo in a game I play.

Because their main audience are keys trying out games at the demo stations of Microsoft stores playing Fifa and Fornite. Not the enthusiast of a dying age like you and me.

EA's audience isn't gamers anymore, and hasn't been for some time. Their audience is the casual normies that play FIFA, Madden, and NBA Live and buy their shitty microtranactions. EA is in the business of fleecing ignorant people by delivering minimum viable products and monetizing them as far as possible. They don't give a single fuck about making good videogames, they're in it to make money and nothing else.

From their perspective I don't know. They still have a variety of sports games that they sell every year, complete with loot boxes. That probably makes them a lot of money. But all of their other games have been kinda meh. They also don't have the most goodwill with their clientele, though again, a large part of their clientele probably doesn't game that much beyond a sports game now and then. They might not know or care much about day one DLC in mass effect 3 and they don't know what hunting whales means beyond the literal meaning.

From the perspective of them being more scummy than at any other previous time. They are, I think, as a lot of their products are targeting vulnerable people to entice them into gambling away a lot of their money. That said, it might get worse. It could always get worse.

I could say this is EA's lowest point but that would be an almost foolishly optimistic statement. EA can always sink lower. They bumble from controversy to controversy and they only ever seem to be getting worse and worse.

Most of these types view Gaming as a service anyways. Their main audience is the Chinese trust fund brat and his friends from South America who is accustomed to this kind of spending as part of lifestyle costs...unless you live in Belgium than you are the kid who gets left out.

Their audience is not the online ranter who buys nothing but complains about everything EA does and maybe you get an actual bone tossed into your pit...if you are lucky

Most of the gaming populous are either clueless or indifferent to the fact. Cue Metallica's "Sad But True".
