You now have my attention with this game Blizzard.

I guess this is officially your apology for Diablo Immortal.

EDIT: Cinematic Movie Trailer:

Looks Cool. Pity they're still cowtowing to the Chinese government. Until that's fixed, I'm inclined to stay away from all their products...

As usual, I'm willing to deny myself what I want for a cause. Epic Game Store, Borderlands, EA games, what have you.

But seriously, Blizzard is looking as us and then looking at the literal Billion Plus Population of China and considers us acceptable losses.

Doesn't mean we should give up. I just know it means very little.

Ehh... while there's a ton of gamers in China with room to grow, they still make up a small portion of the global audience, and I can't imagine the stock holders are going to be thrilled about being dependent on a market that they can lose in only a few hours if someone says something that is somehow interpreted as offensive to the Communist Party of China. Risk/reward has always been an issue with that market.

Yeah, I'll be more interested when they stop groveling at the feet of Winnie the Pooh.

Agreed. They want to be bitches that suck the dick of bigger bitches. Go right ahead. I stopped buying from Activision years ago. The only exception was Transformers Devastation, and that was more for Platinum than anything else.

Well, Diablo 3 didn't set my world on fire, and I've got Path of Exile if I ever get the dungeon-looter itch again, so I suppose this'll be another $15 sale pickup.

Yup, they're dead to me until they address the actual problem. Fuck their craven behavior

I'm curious as to how many of those protesters actually cared about Hong Kong until the Hearthstone issue came up. But anyway:

I can't fault the cinematic trailer. I mean, I said that the storyline should have ended at D3, but that wasn't going to happen, and RoS and the Adventure Mode lore established that things can go very south, very quickly in Sanctuary. Turns out D4 shows just how south they can go from what I've read. Also, if you were going to bring a villain back, Lilith is a pretty sound choice. But if the person in the cinematic is Rathma...why? He despised her during the Sin War, what's with the about-turn? Also, calling it, the temple they're in is the Temple of the Firstborn. Also turns out all you need is blood to remove Lilith from the Abyss because....I dunno, magic.

As for the gameplay though...ugh. It looks drab. Really drab. Nevermind that we've got three returning classes (because God forbid we make new ones), but the entire thing is just...well, drab. Grey, drab, and boring. Seriously, you could probably put any screenshot of D4 alongside a PoE one and have people struggle to say which is from which game. And I know some smartarse is going to say "that's how Diablo IV should look, haven't you played D1/D2?" To which I say "yes, I have, but now D4 looks like every other ARPG that goes for this aesthetic." I'll be honest, the gameplay trailer for Diablo Immortal looks better from an aesthetic standpoint because it manages to capture the Gothic aesthetic while retaining a distinct look.

Still, from what I've read, the game seems to be going for a middleground for D2 and D3, so, um, yay?

They made this game for you as an apology to Diablo Immortal and you spit in their faces.

Ungrateful.

Maybe if Blizzard hadn't pulled that little oopsie-daisy a few weeks back this would've been a nice apology. Instead it smacks of desperation after the China bootlicking fall-out.

Samtemdo8:

Ungrateful.

I'm not a corporate bootlicker, and Activision-Blizzard is making record profits despite feeling the need to fire hundreds of people. They don't need me brainlessly spewing empty platitudes at them.

I'm so fucking sorry, that I didn't show the appropriate amount of hype for a game with a feature that I utterly despise made by a company that's shown itself willing to utterly debase itself to pander to a totalitarian regime. Do you want me to turn my brain off and dishonestly talk about how much I'm hyped for features I hate and how I forgive Blizzard for pandering to Winnie the Pooh? Would that make you fucking happy?

Samtemdo8, not everyone likes what you like and you need to learn how to handle that.

You didn't care for Blizzard even before Diablo Immortal so don't use recent events as an excuse.

I don't hold boycotting Blizzard as a great way to help HK(better than nothing), but how deep into corporate bum one have to be to seriously think that. C'mon, man.

If I didn't care for them then how is this an apology for me that you accuse me of so utterly ungrateful for? Pick a narrative and stick with it, for fuck's sake.

I have been alone in what I like in this website for years now. I once made Blizzard related posts in this site before the Diablo Immortal fallout. Barely any traction and enthusiasm and often just saying how much Blizzard sucks.

What does that have to do with anything that I've said? Nothing. I'm not impressed with the ball and chain that Diablo 4 comes with and Blizzard's attitude recently has left me wanting. If you don't want to hear that, well, I don't know what to say.

You want me to address what you actually say? Fine.

Your not a corporate Bootlicker for just playing a game.

Blizzard's Buisness with China should not affect your playing of a game. Your not gonna get censored by China right now for playing a game.

When the hell are you not without internet that you absolutely need to play Diablo 4 Offline by yourself? You completely miss the point that games like Diablo and Path of Exile thrive on being Online Co-Op games. And the online is the allow player trading. Do you only play games solo at all times?

While the game does look good. I'm not going to bother getting excited for it because they said it isn't even close. Not even Blizzard close. Which means this game is three years away at least so no point in dealing with any sort of hype or speculation.

Especially considering how much Diablo 3 changed from the time it was first revealed to the time it actually came out. So what they showed at blizzcon literally means nothing other than the game exists.

The fact that you expected any other reaction astounds me greatly. Seriously dude, you gotta be living under a rock to have thought a thread praising Blizzard was gonna go down any way other than pork pie at Passover.

Sam, if you want you play Diablo 4, by all means do it. Me personally, I have no interests, but I won't think less of you for it. With that said, I follow my own set of standards, not yours, nor people who constantly defends a coropartions bull crap. As for errttheking, if he enjoys preferring playing offline, it's his decision and nothing wrong with it. You can't be online all the time. Hell, I prefer solo/single-player unless I'm co-op locally with someone. That's life dude; people are different. Get over it. You lose nothing when some of us refuse to buy the game.

Did you forget how horrible Blizzard's servers were on D3's launch? The lag and disconnects that had absolutely nothing to do with any individual player's Internet connection? And then keep in mind that once Blizzard decide to take down those servers, Diablo 4 will be completely unplayable.

1. Blizzard hasn't repeated that level of server issues that Diablo 3 had and even then those issues will eventually get fixed. Diablo 3 hasn't had Error 47 in awhile.

2. Diablo 2's servers are still up and running. Classic WOW has now been brought back to life. Diablo 4 ain't going away anytime soon.

Yeah sorry, it's a case of what companies I feel comfortable giving money to. Blizzard is officially off of that list. I enjoyed Hearthstone and Overwatch when they first came out, but that good will is now gone.

Sometimes my internet gives out, sometimes it just doesn't work that well. But you know what? I like having the option. And frankly the presence of online always just screams "live service" to me, and all the bullshit trappings that'll fall into. Got better things to do with my time and money than pick up a crack habit, particularly one being peddled by Activision-Blizzard. I enjoyed Overwatch at the time, but dear got did the slow lootbox grind suck a lot of the joy out of it. Now more of that? Yeah, no thanks.

It's not like Diablo IV's not going to be trying to make as much money from as many people as possible anyway, because that's how Blizzard operates now. The kind of thinking which made Diablo III the way it was at launch haven't gone away in the seven years since. Diablo IV will almost certainly be an always online money pit because that's what Blizzard makes now.

The cinematic looks pretty good though. Her cape looks like a giant ballsack.

I'm so glad to fall outside of any of these companies and franchises that have shown their true, rotten colours this generation. I never cared about Blizzard or anything they've made, I don't care about online multiplayers, so yeah, I've been lucky.

What on Earth are you talking about? The game must have been in development for at least two years. They didn't just decide to make one as an apology, they made a calculated decision not to reveal that they've been working on it. Why the fuck should any fan thank them for that? By the way, the video game industry is the only one that does that crap. You never see people in the movie industry trying to hide what they've been working on for years. Nobody needs that shit.

Adam Jensen:

What on Earth are you talking about? The game must have been in development for at least two years.

Three. Five if you include Project Hades.

Not a fan of blizzard at all, never touched D3 and didn't care about overwatch or starcraft and so on.

So yeah, I'm totally unbiased when I say I think this game looks great lol. I love the gritty and dark design. D3 looked too much like WoW with all the bright colors and whatnot. This game looks to be going back to its gothic roots and that's about the only time I ever had any interest in anything blizzard made.

Also, I must admit I am a sucker for redemption arcs, and they have a ton to redeem themselves for. Here's praying they don't find a way to screw this up too.

(also I find it HILARIOUS that one of the classes turns into a bear when we have the Winnie the Pooh situation right now XD)

The Hong Kong/China stuff obviously cast an ominous shadow over Blizzcon this weekend, but aside from that I thought it was a pretty good event. Diablo 4 looks great so far.

Day 1 buy for me

The Blizzard/HK stuff is blown out of proportion.

Blizzard have every right to ban the player and curate what is said on their private streams.

Blizzard isn't causing the protest in hong kong. Gamers are idiots.

It has nothing to do with free speech/democracy.

Take it one step further and throw out all the stuff in your house that comes from China.

Gamers are idiots.

There are a lot of legitimate arguments for every human on this planet being an idiot in some way or form...but not blindly giving their money away to a greedy immoral international corporation who doesn't give a shit about them, is most certainly not one of them.
