To apologize for the server issues Friday the 13th encountered on launch, Gun Media and Illfonic are releasing a new free DLC today.
If you were playing Friday the 13th at launch, or watching us try to stream it, then you know that the game was facing some serious server issues. It was difficult to connect to the servers, and it wasn't unusual to get dropped because the servers were simply overloaded. Now the issues have largely been eliminated, and Gun is looking to apologize to players.
As you can see in the video, the company says "We just wanted to say we're sorry... We want to make up for that...and thank you for your patience. With cool free shit!" The make-up gift is free DLC that's available today.
This DLC includes two new outfits for each counselor, 13,000 free customization points, and the biggest item of all: the "Retro" Jason skin. Retro Jason looks exactly like Jason from the NES version of the game, and is accompanied by new chiptune music created by Mitch Murder. Additionally, Gun plans to run a double XP weekend June 23-25.
In the press release accompanying the news, Gun said, "Overall, Gun Media is very thankful to our fans, supporters, and those interested in the game. We were completely overwhelmed by the amount of users that tried to play at launch, enough to break our servers and force us to upgrade. That process has evened out since then, however we are still working to smooth out the experience even more across all three platforms."
The new DLC launches today for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
